An interesting report from NOAA concerning a severe geomagnetic caused by a solar flare on Friday.

Has anyone experienced any of the possible problems described in the article ?

Nope. Most of the problems seem to be affecting spacecraft and satellites. I doubt anyone here is a NASA scientist. I guess they would be the ones most affected.

I was on the 11 metre band yesterday (specificly 27.555mhz USB) and the DX contact and propagation was great, no abnormalities there at all, not even QRM, from 10am until 5pm GMT.

"This event registered a 9 on the K-Index, which measures the maximum deviation of the Earth's magnetic field in a given three-hour period,"

What effects (if any) would the above statement have on the average persons everyday life ?

He suffers a power outage (but the grid companies are prepared these days).

His retirement fund could dip lower because a satellite gets zapped and has to be replaced.

His insurance premiums go up for the same reason.

In short, no discernible effects other than the potential power loss.

Is it possible that the retirement fund could go up and the insurance premiums go down?....Or is this a violation of the fundamental laws of "royal screwings" ?

Well the power grid here (montreal) went out it does frequently and Hydro Quebec doesen't bother preaparing cause it is too expnsive but their response teams work fast olny took zthem 3 hours to isolate and fix the problems. Power outages are frequent (monthly at highest) but short even in storm conditions.

usualy when there`s large amounts of solar activity (esp the 11 cycle type) the radio on 11 metres band swings one of 2 ways, either propogation "skip" is fantastic or it signal 5 of static in waves. needless to say we only like the Skip

Did anyone see an aurora's caused by this storm?
