  1. You need to include water intake in your 'parameters.' Also, how is 5'9" 165lbs, in good health? Sounds kind of starved to death . . . . poor fella'. ** must be drinking too much beer
  2. Graphite or Graphalloy Bearings are really good for high speeds, and are more easily adapted to smaller applications as they are solid as opposed to being made of small balls. You will probably have to shop around for something in your size, or you could probably have something custom made.
  3. It seems to be required knowledge for understanding Hilbert Spaces and Spectral Multiplicity, at least according to Halmos. I figured I would read get caught up on Measure before diving into this other topic.
  4. Thanks guys! It seems that "Real and Complex Analysis" - Rudin covers the topics well and this was already on my list so I think I'll check it out! It seems that it is generally treated at the graduate level, so I guess I'll just read through and go from there.
  5. When I was younger I had been sleep walking. I was sitting on a flight of stairs staring at my mother. I was conscious of my surroundings, and at the time I actually was sitting on the stairs staring at my mother; although I was still sleeping. She was surrounded by poor children from Africa and Sally Struthers was standing next to her. This was back in the eighties, so she was the eighties Sally Struthers. I looked at my mother and said "Mom, we have to feed the children!" I can still see the children surrounding my mother, I was maybe six at the time. Sleep walking was something I did fairly often up until my mid teens. I don't believe I was sick, although I was sick pretty regularly as a child. I have visual hallucinations like your cigarette fairly regularly without a fever. Oddly enough I had a dream with my mother in it last night, she hated me for being an emotional wreck!
  6. Kind of like how ajb has mentioned about Grassman Numbers and Green's Theorem/Function?
  7. What is the importance of measure theory, it is a branch that I've heard little about? Can anyone point me at the definitive text on its foundation?
  8. There are almost no manufacturers of this type of component as it is readily made by anyone. Loudspeakers often employ an air core inductor in their crossover and the most easily attained product on the market comes from these guys Jantzen Audio! You can find their product on Amazon if it meets your needs. http://www.jantzen-audio.com/html/coils.html ** note: almost any local transformer manufacturer will custom turn one for you
  9. I don't understand the wording of the question. Is A stationary? Is B the pin? Is the question asking for [math] \omega [/math]? Are you expected to use polar coordinates--I ask because I am not quite at intermediate mechanics and am expected not to use polar coordinates. Is the groove a blow up of the inside of the block? These may be obvious but if you are seeking help, then maybe not. All things aside the question isn't anything that can't be solved from basic fundamental principles . . . if the block is moving at 60m/s, then I don't see why the x velocity of the pin shouldn't be the same value and the rest should come pretty quickly!
  10. In Canada technical colleges have programs related to biomedical technology and the usage of biomedical equipment, but these are not degree programs. I believe the general consensus of universities is that they will teach their engineers the full spectrum of the theory required to handle any task, or to teach their scientists disciplined scientific theory. What you are specifically addressing is either directed at lab work, or a specialized form of equipment engineering. It doesn't make much sense from a university perspective to specialize students to a given field in a general way by combining disciplines to satisfy a specific market. Here in BC however, UBC does offer a cooperative degree with a technical college (BCIT) that specializes in microbiology in combination with biomedical technology. The five year degree is geared toward microbiology and immunology, and is designed to prepare individuals to be lab technicians--not lab equipment technicians but lab chemists. These individuals are taught in such a way as to be competent in the theory of microbiology, but in combination with the hands on capability of a technologist. But again speaking from a strictly engineering perspective, why would a university specialize their students in a general way? This approach tends to be restricted entirely to technical colleges!
  11. The NSA Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center (Watch What You Say)! My economics teacher likes to think that he knows copious amounts of fine details when it comes to computing. He keeps going on about the NSA having one of only two terahertz computers in the world. This doesn't exactly mean much of anything, as far as I'm aware there still isn't at present a terahertz transistor to design a chip on. So I decided to do a little research and it seems that the current standard in national security is the petaflop. Recent articles suggest however, that in fact there is currently a work in progress toward an exaflop security center, and this has generated some buzz. The fact that the NSA might be listening in on every phone call in the world is now at a peak of concern for those it matters to; like my teacher. I guess it would seem that he had at the very least one thing correct. Although, I doubt the NSA will be knocking at my door anytime soon for the crap that comes out of my mouth regular basis--but then again!
  12. I often have dreams that I am like a time traveler, sort of like a linked set of lives or past life phenomena, but I see the future lives as well. In one of the dreams I've had, it would have been my last life, I was thrown out of a plane into the desert. I bounced off the sand and I came out of my body and looked at myself as I lied on the ground dead. Then I sort of went back into my body but I was like a sphere of energy still dissociated from the body. It was at the bounds of this sphere of energy that I could see, and not from my eyes. I laid there for fifty years doing nothing . . . . I've had other such experiences in waking dreams. I was meditating once and I dropped into a dream state. My head started to fill with the sounds of a thousand horns. My energy dissociated from my body as this beam of light entered my mouth, my eyes, and my ears. I could see from the boundaries of my energy cloud and I looked down on myself as the beam--it was like blue plasma, with black, and white entities swimming in the stream--made my body flop around on my bed, like a flag in the wind.
  13. A relative of mine asked me at Easter dinner if there was any such thing as Fractal Engineering. I said to him that in the strictest of sense no, but I'm sure that you can come up with something if the problem fits. I am curious as to what sort of physical system represents itself with a precise nonlinear pattern? Is that you Rick?
  14. They have a spin magnetic moment, I am not sure what else you might be referring to.
  15. For latex use [math] [/math] without the underscore!
  16. Was this a funny way of saying that it would become repetitious?
  17. Stuck in this skin suit, can't get out with my life, so take out my innards, and fill me with spice. Saran wrap me darlin', in the fridge I keep well! It's all spoiled honey, but nothin' like hell . . . [twangy guitar] [chorus] It all became wrong when it all became right, it all boiled over and fell from my sight . . . It all became wrong when it all became right, it all boiled over and fell from my sight! I'm God 'cause I said so, I have to implore! And all that belongs, lies dead on my floor . . So when it's all over and my body decays, my mind might escape it might find a way! [chorus] It all became wrong when it all became right, it all boiled over and fell from my sight . . . It all became wrong when it all became right, it all boiled over and fell from my sight! Bent like a sucker and bowed at the knees, I'm saved by my will, not by my feats. My fantastic failures have paved the way, to a perfect enlightenment, and a very happy stay . .. . [chorus] It all became wrong when it all became right, it all boiled over and fell from my sight . . . It all became wrong when it all became right, it all boiled over and fell from my sight! by Xittienn >:|
  18. Related Rates: step 1) write out the equation for the triangle for which you wish to solve step 2) find the derivative of both sides with respect to time step 3) substitute the known value [math] \frac{d \phi}{dt} [/math] step 4) solve for [math] \frac{ds}{dt} [/math] step 5) profit $$$
  19. step 1) Draw a phase diagram step 2) find [math] \phi_0 [/math] step 3) find the angular frequency step 4) write the standard wave equation step 5) find the equations for v and a step 6) apply the mechanical advantage of a piston rod step 7) learn physics guys! j/k
  20. @DrDNA I'm sorry I'm not someone who does well at reading between the lines. I will try to look at your posts again and understand what might be to everyone else very obvious! ** I don't do iPods either, it's usually best not to prejudge me and to direct comments at me in the most English way possible; thanks!
  21. I totally agree, which is why I am very selective about what I buy. I make a point of researching every product, before I purchase it, thoroughly, and I only buy what I need. I avoid buying cheap novel goods that have limited use and value, and that ignore concepts such as sustainability. Mass production of these garbage products is in my opinion the main reason why so many people are stuck in factories getting their souls sucked out of them for no reason other than to pollute the world with more garbage. I like a market that is more open and where products are made locally by crafts people who enjoy what they do. I wish we could organize our economy in such a way that these types of practices would become feasible. I don't necessarily feel though, that for people to do their craft respectably, sustainably, and with quality, that this somehow requires every person be in business for themselves. I believe there are other solutions such as firms who oversee trades people and ensure the effectiveness of their distribution of product--without grossly and negligently profiteering off of them. I see the last point here that I've made as a near future step toward innovation that is waiting to be realized. Large firms are about to be overtaken by a lot of little guys who understand the benefits of maximizing both social and private benefit, and global sustainability.
  22. If there was a God, I would opt to remain broken and burn . . . . I know a lot of Christians who oppose this sort of attitude and feel that it would be inconsistent with the teachings of the bible to adopt this view . . . for whatever reason! I would like to point out that the individuals who frequent this forum and call themselves theists are not necessarily representative of the greater public. All online venues are subject to various sorts of aggressive or maligned activity as it allows individuals who might have social problems an outlet! The general consensus that I have seen is Christians believe that there is a God and that his method will become most apparent at a later date!
