  1. Just so happened to find this yesterday: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Neutronium It's been theorised that an element name Neutronium exists in the core of Neutron Stars. It corresponds to the atomic number zero, hence it is believed to have no protons and is composed only of neutrons. I forgot that you asked for naturally occurring only- but there you go, you might find it interesting anyway.
  2. It is quite clearly a joke, yes.
  3. 0/0=∞ ∞ = π ∴ 0/0 = π π = The Universe ∴ 0/0 = The Universe lol. Edit: Pi is exactly 3. Re-Edit: But no, seriously. If you take 0 to be 'something', it is said to be able to fit into 'something else' indefinitely or infinitely; e.g. 8/0 = ∞ . That's according to a section of an OCR mathematics book I read anyway. It depends if you read it as dividing 8 into 0 sections... which would lead you to think it's disappeared. Or if you look at it as how many times 0 fits inside 8 (as many times as it pleases). Re-Re-Edit: (Cannot sleep tonight.) If 1x0= 0 and 2x0=0, then 1x0=2x0. Therefore, if (1x0)/0= (2x0)/0, the zeros cancel to conclude 1 can equal 2. Maths is broken.
  4. Using circular DNA and existing ribosomes in the bacterium's cytoplasm.
  5. Dolphins were about to walk on land for the first time. Those guys ruined it!
  6. Carbon fibre is light, thin, strong and sometimes flexible. I've seen phone cases made of the stuff too.
  7. It would be suspicious if all of them were working on secret government projects or something along those lines. These just seem to be random science professionals. xD Edit: No. 90 scientist (in the first link) looks like a very old Jeremy Clarkson to me.

    Uniform Units

Ah I see, cheers for clearing this up. The difference was between the units shown in the cancellation process and the SI units. moldm-3 is changed to dm3mol-1 when the units are transferred from bottom to top of the equation. SI units are displayed like that of dm3mol-1 automatically. My amazing observational skills at work again. No, you're right I've been confusing myself on many levels over something simple, as per usual. Since then I've worked out how the unit ms-1 is probably derived through calculation; it does make sense and doesn't happen as automatically as I previously thought. Both common sense and a simple calculation have now shown me this. Thanks.

    Uniform Units

In chemistry lessons I was taught that the positive units are followed by the inverse units. My teachers didn't use the term 'inverse' to describe them, but that's what they are, I think? So anyway, an example: (moldm-3) (moldm-3) -------------------------- = dm3mol-1 <--- So as seen here cubic decimetres comes before mole. (moldm-3)2(moldm-3) So it becomes Cubic decimetres per mole, as opposed to moles per cubic decimetre. However, in my physics textbooks I frequently see SI units like km h-1, and others presented with the inverse units coming last. As I'm writing this I'm having ideas as to why this may be; i.e. hour per kilometres doesn't make sense. My question is, does that rule only apply to the process of deriving units? Such as that for kc (equilibrium constant), or is it simply convention to display them the common way?

    Chemistry

I laughed when I saw your post's title 'Chemistry' under the 'Maths' forums. Chemistry could go in chemistry forums .<br class="Apple-interchange-newline"> 100g of 18gmol-1 H2O. 100/18= 5.56 mol H2O. (2/18)*100= 11.11% H by mass in H2O. (Because 2gmol-1 out of 18gmol-1 Water is Hydrogen.) (5.56/100)*11.11= 0.618mol H in H2O. (Times by the percentage of water made up by Hydrogen by mass equals ANS.) I'm confident this is the answer, but am doubting myself a bit, purely because it's been a while since I've done these sorts of chemistry calculations. It all seems to pan out, logically.
  11. Nuclear fission or fusion, maybe nothing. Depends. Here's the little amount I know about nuclear fusion: When two protons fuse together energy is released. According to Einstein's E=mc2, mass is lost in the form of energy; two non-fused protons have more mass than two that are fused together.
  12. The yellowish colour is just a layer of carbon material that built up when the kettle's metal surface started heating up, due to the water all evaporating away. As for the noises and poor functioning of the kettle... when the water all evaporated out, the kettle itself began to heat up, for longer than it could handle in terms of stress. The expansion of the metal left structural damage, because it was unable to 'shrink' back down to its previous shape. That's very weird... what exactly does the sender mean when they say, the water inside the kettle 'flashes'? Maybe the metal inside is contaminating the water now.
  13. I think the term 'conspiracy theorist' has been given a bad name by frequent TV culture and the numerous conspiracy nuts out there; belonging to, for e.g. illuminati, faked moon landing, and area 51 is hiding aliens conspiracy groups... and more. Let's remember the term conspiracy just means: 'an agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud or other wrongful act'. Theory, in this context, merely means a proposal backed up by some evidence. Some better than others of course. So unless it has at least those two things I wouldn't class it as a conspiracy theory. There are many good reasons to be keeping a watchful eye on, for example, your general government, to ensure fraudulent, criminal acts don't go under the radar or unpunished. Apologies for breaking off of topic on your post a bit, just felt it was a good side point for people to read when they view the post from all over the interwebs. Dodgy happenings aren't uncommon in the world. In fact, I'd go as far as saying they have been more frequent in actual history, than in fiction. You may want to research 'Operation Northwoods' as an example.
  14. Handling any carcinogenic material for prolonged periods of time will result in greater cancer risk. It might be worth wearing some plastic gloves that keeps the liquid off of your skin; it can absorb through the skin into the blood stream etc. just like any chemical. Better safe than sorry I reckon.
  15. Sure people are listening. I mean, just look at the global elites, they meet at the Bohemian Grove every now and then to meet up and celebrate their wealth and power, and decide how the world is going to work. They actively oppose this harmony.
  16. Hi there umjd, welcome to the forums. A light year is only a measure of distance though isn't it? At least I've always thought it is. Researched it. It takes 1 year for light to travel that distance- the clue was in the name I guess! Yeah, astrophysicists rely on maths to determine whether or not they still exist. Namely, by calculating how long it has taken for light to reach us from the planet/galaxy/whatever it may be. For e.g., if they find that it takes light 20 minutes to reach us from a distant object in space; we wait 20 minutes, if the object is still there, we know it must still exist, or at least it did 20 minutes ago.
  17. Yes, it is possible. Typically, nuclear devices are detonated at very high altitudes and their effects span across large areas. It might be possible using some other method, to direct the pulse, but it wouldn't work very well using the common nuclear device method. If detonation took place at a lower altitude the area it affects could be reduced, but the area may then begin to suffer the primary effects from the nuke, as opposed to the desired secondary electromagnetic pulse effect, caused by gamma radiation and excited electrons. I read up about this about a year back, and came across operation 'Starfish Prime'. Some of the effects are found in this article: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2010/07/06/starfish-prime/. Wikipedia also has a lot more information on EMP.
  18. Didn't realise others had posted, just follow their nice and simple answers. Without the mistake of saying there are 60 seconds in an hour ahahahah. Oh God.
  19. 1km = 0.621371192 miles 1 hour = 60 seconds minutes.... there's the stupid mistake, and hopefully the only one. Conversion factors ^ When converting compound units, you convert one at a time, e.g. convert km into miles, and then hours into seconds. I think you might want meters per second though.
  20. Because they know he committed the crime, and by all standards the crime was very serious and inhumane, the court doesn't worry too much about avoiding bias. It's main goal is to choose the right punishment, to provide some sort of reparation for those affected by the crime. This means working by the thoughts and feelings of the victims, as well as the standard court principles. I'm guessing the families could refuse to go to court if they wanted to.
  21. PLoS ONE: http://www.plosone.org/home.action This site has a lot of peer-reviewed science journals, I'm on there quite often, it's good. The rest sounds like your homework and it's easy enough to research. Good Luck.
  22. http://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/caveman-about-the-house/ More research about the Neanderthals that might interest you, moontanman. Different ideas about how they lived.
  23. You've never heard of infinity? But anyway, that point aside, the world's end has been predicted countless times and nobody has ever been correct, evidently. The 2012 end of the world theory is one of the least convincing yet.
  24. Maybe one day. It depends what particles you're talking about really: atoms, sub-atomic particles... or particles smaller than a femtometer i.e. particles unconfirmed to exist. For example, altering the number of protons in an atom's nucleus will change the elementary group it belongs to. Adding one proton to the nucleus of a hydrogen atom will essentially form an isotope of a helium atom. Someone will probably be along soon to give you a more reasoned/detailed answer no doubt. If you're interested and haven't seen it. This might help you understand the particle breakdown... in terms of scale at least. Zoom in to the particle level and see what's knockin' about: http://static.flabbe...-universe-2.swf For future reference, this question belongs in the speculations forum board, not science news.
