  1. That is good to know.

Iota, how is your ear now. An ear infection is not something to play with, and I am concerned about you.

No worries, Athena! I managed to make the pain and blockage go away using stuff at home, but the infection soon came back. I thought it would be a bit stupid to do it twice biggrin.gif, so I went to my doctor and I'm now on a course of Amoxicillin. It's clearing up quickly. Thanks for asking.

  2. Well you'd need to measure the capsaicin content of the powder mixture. I'm sure that's done with analysis equipment of some sort.

It's practically an impossible task to measure it in the way you are trying.

I have some pure capsaicin extract, I suggest you buy that. You can dilute it down in proportions, from 16mil Scovilles, to the desired heat level. I don't recommend eating it roar though!

  3. Remember, a functional group can be defined as: the part(s) of the organic molecule that takes part in chemical reactions. (You're correct about the C=C.)

Look into the chemical reagents used for Birch's Reduction and Friedel-Crafts Alkylation (both which are used to alter C=C bonds) and see if you think they will affect any other groups. That should answer the question.

    Hope this helped!

  4. Hi,

I need some help regarding my understanding of organic synthesis. I was reading over some class notes, and found a diagram which showed a molecule and stated that it could be used as a precursor for a synthesis reaction. It said, that the synthesis of it could lead to multiple products due to stereoisomersim, optical isomerism or multiple reactive sites giving unintended products. I have attached the image of the molecule below and would be very appreciative of any help with this!! :)

    Cheers,

    Az.

So what do you understand stereoisomerism and optical isomerism to be?

Can you name the functional sites on the molecule you posted?

Lastly, was you given a final product that you were aiming to make? Otherwise we could do many things to the organic compound.

  5. I've been treating my ear infection for a week at home. Got rid of all the symptoms for a few days, but it came back when I stopped treating it.

I now have the antibiotics 'amoxicillin', and they are having some side effects on me... (feeling a bit sick, a bit tired; and let's put it this way... there's no chance of me getting constipated until the antibiotic course finishes.)

There are side effects for some ahaha.

  6. Good read :)

I agree. I didn't know that stuff either.

Just realised that it's a religious site, but they were citing actual scientific facts, so it's alright.

  7. So you've just shown that the only reason you believe these conspiracies is because, in your mind, they don't add up. That's ridiculous, you're letting yourself get carried away.

I get the impression that the only reason people buy into these things, is because they wish they were true.

Why not look into real conspiracies (Refrain yourself from abusing this information by adding wild theories to it), for e.g. Operation Northwoods; plans by the CIA to carry out terrorist attacks on American citizens, and pin the blame on Cuba, so they could invade.

Why not look into the so called 'forgotten holocaust'- that is- Unit 731.

Reality is much worse and much weirder than fiction. So, stop buying into this bs and learn some real history, if catastrophe really excites you that much.

As for those pictures of Osama Bin Laden, in your so called "spoiler", it was established that they were produced by randomers. Your government NEVER claimed that to be him.

  8. I'm asking if its possible?

Could through genetic engineering and biochemistry, could we develop a bio-synthetic "plant" that would harvest energy from sunlight rather than turning it into an electrical current?

I'm not aware of any plants that do turn sun light energy into electricity. They all harvest the energy?...

    Wut mean?

  9. If you are in the USA I would speculate that it's an old style telephone connection.... is it live?

I'm not sure how to test that without killing myself, but I think so.

I'm in the UK. I think you must be right, because there is this on the floor underneath it, which is for old phones, I think:

Edit: If it is live, there's a plastic lid that goes on, which I've put back on now.

  10. There was a lot of fear that Communism would catch on. That wasn't good news for the Capitalist countries, so they actively countered its influence. For e.g. US interfered with Vietnam because it was fairly certain that communism would be voted in.

If Capitalism became a minority, there was a possibility it would be lost, because the rest of the Communist world would condemn it, and their propaganda could become dominant.

  11. Indeed. The next generation must be reached out to. I've seen BBC documentaries, where Afghani children have sworn vengeance against "The West" because their father, or mother, or their whole families have been killed by foreign forces.

At the same time there are people in these countries who are thankful that foreign forces are there to help. It depends on their first hand experience with the people we're sending out there to their homes. The military missions need to be much more cautious if they don't want to generate more extremists, whom could potentially be friendly.

  12. Sounds like you're asking for illicit advice now. doh.gif

I know it is something heavy duty and well hidden and also possible because when I got hacked 2 years ago I also had the Feds remote into my pc and they bypassed both of my firewalls in under 5 seconds

My question about that is: how could you possibly know it was the Feds? Did they leave a message in notepad saying "Feds waz 'ere". Or clumsily leave an IP address lying around that openly corresponds to CIA HQ?

If you was under real Federal interest, they wouldn't mess about hacking into your computer again and again. They would raid your house, confiscate your computer(s), and throw you in the slammer until they found the evidence they needed. And they'd be reading this forum, right now.

My only advice from this point on; 'if' you're involved in something that's putting you at risk of federal surveillance, stop being involved in it, with immediate effect. You will get caught eventually.

If a malicious hacker is getting into your PC with information that you don't want them to have; don't put it on your PC. It's not a safe place for highly important stuff.

You describe the symptoms like there's a fire somewhere, but you can't see it, and there's no smoke anywhere, but you know it exists.

  13. The Taliban is more of an idea, than a group. You can take out some of the top Taliban leaders, e.g. Bin Laden, but new ones will emerge. To "beat" the Taliban, better security and education needs to be built into the Pakistani, Afghani and so on... infrastructures.

Even the most amazing military strategies can't achieve 'victory' against Taliban. I'm not saying sit back and do nothing. Invest more in developing a stronger rapport and understanding between our cultures. Eventually the Taliban will be so rejected within their own countries they will automatically fail to exist on large scales.

The biggest cure for these extremists who misinterpret their own religions and take them so literally, is to bring them better education. Bring them rationality. It's like the present West is neighbours with its own 500 year old self. It's difficult for us to see eye to eye; where religion is the foremost important part of their culture.

I haven't looked into your research above. I'll try to read it within the next few weeks. Looks complex.

  14. The questions here are. How do I make them stop?

String Junky proposed a good method for this. Try it.

    How do I catch them?

No simple or complex answer can explain to you how to do this. It could easily be an impossible task, it all depends.

How do I determine if its law enforcement?

Why would it be law enforcement?

    Could it be Microsoft? No.

And finally, since what I saw is possible, how on earth are they doing it?

I proposed an answer for this. Research Netbus and Orifice.

  15. Freedom of the mind. The ability to distinguish your own thoughts from incoming distortion.

Freedom is the constant battle against oppression. If you're not fighting it, you're not free, because oppression always exists.

^ It's not complete hippy crap, think about it.

  16. I've used MSE from its release and have yet to have malware in my system.

Okay, great it's worked for you, but that's not necessarily a causation. Seeing as you're computer savvy so probably browse the web quite safely anyway.

I frequent a computer forum and it is just about unheard there to hear people say: "I an infection and I'm using MSE...how do I get rid of it?" AVG is another story! Every system and user combination is different so all that matters is that it works for any given scenario, regardless of which one scores the highest test ratings.

Very similar scenarios- 'browsing the web daily and need protection when security's compromised', basically put. The test ratings have meaning and can't just be thrown to one side really.

It's a possibility that the reason why you never hear people reporting infections while using MSE is that it doesn't pick them up.

I think we're both set on our differing opinions of MSE so I'll leave it at that. I agree with you when it comes to AVG though.
