  1. John, i think you may be right, i am still working on it and try to find an answer.
  2. After i read some comments on The Poisoner's Handbook, i decided not to buy this book. (see comments from Valentin Rodionov) .............. Most, if not all of the chemistry (and physics) in this book is entirely disconnected from the reality of science. Blum's treatment of poisons, analytical procedures and basic science ranges from simple misstatements, inaccuracies and misunderstandings to statements that are outright wrong. Some of these are listed below: * The action of mustard chemical warfare agents has nothing to do with "becoming a ferocious form of sulfuric acid". Mustards act through alkylative damage of DNA (and other biomolecules). * Sodium carbonate is not an acidic chemical. * HCN is not a "potent acid". * No additional source of hydrogen is needed to perform a Marsh test for arsenic. * It is not likely that arsenic compounds will crystallize in the tissues of a poisoning victim. * The Reinsch test is not a simple color test, as is implied by Blum's description. This is according to Gettler himself: [...] * Electrical current is not measured in volts. * Blum's description of radioactive decay, to borrow a phrase from Wolfgang Pauli, "is not even wrong". This list is by no means comprehensive - these are just some of the many cringe-inducing parts in the book. .......... http://www.amazon.com/The-Poisoners-Handbook-Forensic-Medicine/product-reviews/014311882X/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt_sr_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending
  3. what if it would take weeks / months for my skin to absorb the ENOUGH dose to re-induce the symptom ? i jumped from doctor a to doctor b then a dentist who had no idea at all !
  4. I am still waiting for the answer of this thread. Unluckily, nobody could come up with an answer..sigh..
  5. how do you preserve sliced pumpkin ? i am told to sprinkle chili pepper on it. I will try next time.
  6. After i stopped applying this hand cream to my face the symptom of my swollen salivary gland slowly subsided. WOW !

You can be hypnotized if you come across the right person. Anyone can be hypnotized, even if you are resisting it. Trust me, you don't want to be hypnotized, someone could literally kill you with their words.

I didn't try to get hypnotized when it happened the first time. It's no joke in all actuality. People think of hypnosis as of when it occurs clinically, but that's really not the way it can occur. The craziest type of hypnosis will happen between someone who is 20 to 30 years older than you, but they're like the same person that you are.

  9. yes, guys, now it is clearer with your elucidation.
  10. thanks, Swansont. is my understanding skill so poor that i feel confused about the meaning of the mentioned paragraph ? or the paragraph per se makes people confused ?
  11. Could you kindly help me with this paragraph ? it reads: Not all lakes are equally affected by acid rain; the damage depends on the kind of bedrock present. Limestone neutralizes acids and has a buffering effect, but granite, composed of silicates, does not undergo any acid-base reaction. So a lake surrounded by granite rock is likely to suffer more damage from acid rain. But granite's lack of reaction with acid also means that gravestone made of granite are going to last longer than those made of limestone. i don't understand why it says 'but granite, composed of silicates, does not undergo any acid-base reaction, So a lake surrounded by granite rock is likely to suffer more damage from acid rain.'; consider granite does not undergo any acid-base reaction why it is likely to suffer more damage from acid rain? and why granite's lack of reaction with acid also means it lasts longer than those made of limestone? thanks.
  12. You mean pumpkin does not contain the dose of vitamin A to the extent it can kill people even if we eat 500 g per day, whereas polar bear's liver has astronomical dose which is fatal to us ? It applies to ' the dose makes the poison' .
  13. Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A; vitamin A is fat (oil) soluble. (steam fresh pumpkin for 25 minutes without adding anything. WOW, very delicious ) * Is steamed pumpkin still rich in vitamin A ? * Polar bear's liver is also rich in vitamin A, why eating only 1 ounce may kill you but eating pumpkin everyday kills nobody ?

  14. my parotid gland is swollen for a couple of days, and it is getting worse now but i dont feel any pain at all. All the anti-inflammation pills doctor prescribed are not working. I am dying to know the cause of it, but only to be told 'i have no idea, i dont know.' by the doctor. what i could do is go for Dr Google, then I rule out the possible causes of my swollen parotid gland : https://www.entnet.org/HealthInformation/salivaryGlands.cfm 1. obstruction; 2;infection 3. tumor 4. other disorders. None of it is the cause of my condition. so what is the real cause of it ? i wonder... i even suspect the skin care i use... who can give me some clue ? many thanks !
  15. My own voice sounds so unfamiliar. I can not explain why. The uncanny thing is i can easily recognize others' voices. They no need to say a word, just sigh, hum, yawn and sneeze, I can tell who they are. why I can't recognize my own voice ?
  16. i have no worries about wearing white T-shirt in summer now
  17. i am not familiar with chemistry, i just wonder Cl2 + H2O H+ + Cl− + HClO , is it exactly how our tap water is chloridized ?? it produces H, and our tap is full of H ? hydrogen gas is a highly flammable gas. I guess i may be very wrong, PL correct me.
  18. ok,it makes sense to me that acid inhibits the growth of fungus/bacteria. Chemically, what is the tar-like thing on peel ?
  19. thanks for your explanation. By the way, could lemon juice/ cider/other fruit acid accelerate the growth of fungus ?
  20. fungus is almost everywhere, why not on peel ? Go to peel an apple, wait and see....but i am not sure lemon juice accelerates the growth of fungus. ...
  21. Can i conclude it is the type of clothing materials matters, not the color of it ? we need a conclusive answer.
  22. Dark clothes absorb most, reflect little light so when dark clothes absorbs most of UV rays, it is like a wall which prevents us from being exposed to UV rays ? Does it also mean our skin absorb less UV rays, because the dark clothes already absorbs most of light, and the UV rays cant penetrate through our dark clothes ? Is it reliable to infer the dark people can absorb less UV rays than the white people even thought they feel hotter ?
