  1. People with a lack of apptitude in advanced mechanics
  2. I think they are energy. They possess no mass, and only exhibit particle "behaviour". Any atomic interaction resulting in energy formation, produces photons, thats reason enough for me to believe they are energy.
  3. As far as I can think, if you provide enough energy to overcome the activation barrier, the reaction should take place, even if it does occur to a small extent......thats just basic equilibrium.
  4. Why do you then think there is a minimum pressure requirement ? Given pressure p, you'll get a certain amount of compound which is fixed and easily determined.

    Yahoo Chess

Anyone here who has successfully written a working chess program with a computer player ? I know how to do it, but it seems a long, tedious and tough to do.
  6. You can mix hydrogen and oxygen and keep it for ages, nothing will happen untill you initiate the reaction. Pressure will govern the extent of formation (LeChatelier Principle). The kinetics of the reaction would also depend on concentration and hence pressure. So increased presssure, would mean a faster and more extensive reaction. There should be no minimum limit of pressure. Same applies to hydrogen and nitrogen.
  7. To improve your quick sort, you can pick a sub set of k elements from the collection to be sorted and then split the numbers about the median of these k numbers. As it is a constant number of numbers that you pick each time it does not effect time complexity.
  8. You can very easily prove that any algorithm based on comparisons can't run faster than O(n log n). There are sorting algorithms that are not based on comparisons, which typically run faster than O(n log n) however they use some extra information about the numbers being sorted. For eg. You can sort n integers in range 0......m-1 in time O(n+m) using a bucket sort algorithm. The time complexity analysis for quick sort is an assymptotic one and gives the average case comlpexity of O(n log n) , worst case is O(n*n).
  9. Maybe its just a mathematical paper you are looking at then !
  10. Theres historical accuracy. Deducing what was never known. Clearly the work of someone working for aliens, who would like to claim man's great work of inginuity and cunning as their own . Whats next re-modelling the pyramids to better suit the aliens ? (Maybe then they would come back and area 51 would no longer be shrouded in mystery for some people )
  11. Given that it melts at 800 degrees centigrade, why wouldn't a blow torch melt it ?
  12. Group theory also tends to trivialise some notoriously tough looking theorems in number theory.
  13. Mechanism = The mechanism you use to measure your electron. Typically you would use light to capture position say, this would instantly cause a huge uncertainity in momentum. So you have acctually fiddled with the wave and not destroyed it. You suddenly give it the electron an energy pulse which will alter your probability wave. It is like trying to measure an im-measurable, you can never quite have enuf information.
  14. Area 51 is all just bull shit. Aliens were here, we ditched them and pissed em off, all thats left is the pyramids idea we stole and the countless mummies they made out of egyptians in return. So, the humans did build them pyramids and they r there for all to c. The aliens cudn't have built em coz if they did build as per their plans, they would still be comin back to use them.
  15. I must say higher algebra is very interesting. Groups, rings, fields, vector spaces etc. are far more interesting than most topics in maths, you get see such awesome organisation and cataloguing of ideas.
  16. Aliens did contarct them to bbuild the pyramids and supplied all the technology. But, the original plans had them down as icosahedric pyramids and not simple four or three faced one. This is well proven by the ancient egytian text. So it was indeed the cunning humans who ditched the aliens, re-engineered the plans and built the pyramids using all the alien technology. Thereafter, all the egyptians were zapped off and left as mummies(acctualy just badly charred bodies) in their respective tombs (which incidentally was human creativity at its very best - as you can imagine it is extremely hard to convert an icosahedric pyramid into a lion for example).
  17. Wow ! To what, extremes suspicion and revenge take some people !!
  18. The enrgy of a photon is dependent solely on its frequency, so how do you excite it by lasers ?
  19. How would that make light "solid" ? How do you excite a photon ? - I thought photons were used to excite atoms ??
  20. Simple question : When you talk of any em radiation as a trasverse wave, what do you think is oscillating ? It is nothing but the electric and magnetic field, no particles are involved. This is what I meant by saying "wave of ..." . We quickly think of a sinousoid when the word wave is mention but often forget to think whose variation is the sinousoid referring to .
  21. Or think of current, then think of voltages, which are nothing but gradients of electric fields. The wave are of this electric field .(Which is precisely what they are made of in EM-radiation.)

    Atlantis

This must be the 3rd different place whcich has been linked to Atlantis, that I've heard of in the last 1 year. There is a very high probability that Plato did make up all that stuff.
  23. This is what we did because we spent a lot of time doing it and proved tens of theorems.
  24. Drop size depends on surface tension. Its the energy per unit surface area for drop formation. All drops are expected to be spherical to get min surface (thus min energy) for a fixed volume.
