Sort of renders the term meaningless, doesn't it ?

We use it for convenience because saying “best currently accepted internally and externally consistent provisionally validated model” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

Things can be true within certain context and parameters, but much like proofs are for maths, truths tend to be for tyrants.

    Entirely fair point

How many people are actually going to hear about this?

Probably doesn’t matter since facts can be alternative.

If Trump is convicted, he'll give some "cut the tall trees" style public remarks and we'll see a rapid escalation in co-ordinated violent crime across the USA.

The speaker of the house himself was outside the NYC courtroom (cosplaying as DJT, no less) suggesting that the US Justice system is rigged and cannot be trusted. Trump got a gag order from the judge telling him to stop attacking witnesses, so elected GOP officials are doing it for him.

    Do you have a source

There are scores of others and far better ones available, though TBH I considered my point to be largely self-evident when making it. Hopefully this satisfies you and we can move back into the meat of the topic in this thread.

    Net or gross?

    Source?

Biden still has higher holdings in the war-chest overall, but (as per the latest released numbers) in April Trump pulled in more (gross) for the first time (mostly due to a Palm Beach event).

President Joe Biden's 2024 campaign's fundraising in April lagged rival Donald Trump's for the first time, after the former president ramped up his joint operation with the Republican National Committee and headlined high-dollar fundraisers.

The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised more than $51 million in April, the campaign said, lower than the $90 million they raised in March and less than $76 million Donald Trump and the Republican Party reported taking in for the month.

  4. Nothing exploded. Nothing imploded. The universe itself expanded in all directions. There is no outside the universe. There is no before the universe. We're talking about spacetime so time itself didn't yet exist given current models.

We clearly have more to learn, and will hopefully arrive upon improved models in the future. For now, however, humans are apes and our tiny ape brains evolved to understand survival in the savannahs and reproduction in the trees and these cosmic inflationary concepts don't generally lend themselves to simple visualization.

The map is not the territory and we're looking right now at maps.

  5. Referendum decision making in governance is the fastest way to agree to increase government spending on social programs by 5,000% or more while in parallel agreeing to bring taxes down to zero. Because magic is how things get paid for apparently.

  6. Adding another giant vote here for Merlin. Was sitting on my deck day before yesterday and it recognized 8 different bird songs playing at the same time. It’s really helped me to train my ear for what I’m hearing.

If that type of app is of interest, then my nature buddy who lives eats and breathes this stuff and has for decades turned me on a while back to iNaturalist. I’ve had some really good luck identifying things and impressing the kids with that. You’d probably dig it.

it’s alleviated a lot of unnecessary suffering, and - broadly speaking - freed up resources that enabled us as a species to pursue things other than immediate survival and procreation, at least potentially. I for one wouldn’t want to go back to the dark times.

Agreed, though more immediate procreation I would be welcome
