  1. This may be true but i think that you would have to have a vacuum in the sphere. However with light you also always get some heat therefore the reservoir would lose heat energy and therefore the light inside would slowly run out. This means that it may work but only for a small period of time. A similar idea has already been done with 'slow glass' so that the light is directed into a type of glass which slows down the speed of light to about 1cm/yr this means that the light can be stored for a few years - not 100% sure though.
  2. What is the use in the geometric mean? I don't understand what it works out?
  3. A solid can dissolve in a liquid and if you increase the temperature then more solid can dissolve in the liquid before it becomes saturated. Why is it that increasing the temperature for when a gas dissolves in a liquid decreases the amount of gas that dissolves in the liquid before it becomes saturated? Why does increasing the temperature have the opposite effect. EXAMPLE This can be seen when the temperature of a lake rises so that the dissolved oxygen levels decrease and therefore all the fish die.
  4. If you ask your local secondary school i think that could probably tell you where they got their sulphuric acid from. I'm sure the same company that sells to them will have a higher concentration of sulphuric acid as well.
  5. How do you work out the natural resonance of a building/structure and make sure that the structure is strong enough to cope with gusts of winds etc. Can you work out if a building will have structure damage with external forces? How can you make sure resonance does not cause a problem?
  6. Let's thinking clearly. There must of been a beginning to the universe otherwise there would be infinite history which means that even now we are adding on to infinity. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! Therefore there must be a begginning! Everything has a cause and that's a fact therefore let's take it back so far that what was the cause of the universe and why is it so special to create the perfect conditions for life? Well, there seems to be two explanations: one is that there was something already here that caused the creation this means it must have a cause or that there is an uncaused cause. This can only be called GOD! Now God is just a word and therefore is just means a begginning. I believe that the classical concept of God is wrong and God can't be defined. This means we have no purpose but to add on to history. All religions i believe are the brain trying to explain the infinite qualities of the universe and the unexplained! Therefore we have complte spirital free-will but not in community because of restrictions.

    Rat Vs. Human

Is it true that if a man is place into a maze and a rat in a scaled version of the maze; and both the human and the rat have gone round the maze only once before; that the rat with complete the maze first as they have a better mapping memory? How can this be? Does it mean that the rat has a larger mapping part of the brain then a human?
  8. Everything has a pattern e.g. if a coin is flipped there is an equal chance of tails and heads if the coin is fair. If coin flipped 10 times you would expect 5 heads and 5 tails, in reality, randomness stops this from happening. However, if the coin is flipped a million times then there will be a 50:50 split between heads and tails. Does this mean in theory that you could travel in time as there must be a pattern to everything? And as you got further away from present it would be more accuracy as randomness would have less of an effect? THIS IS ONLY IN THEORY!! Are there any problems, in theory, to this?
  9. When testing for the halide ions - chloride, bromine and iodide. 1. You place silver nitrate together with the substance you want to test. Then you get if: Chloride ions present: white solid Bromide ions present: off-white solid Iodide ions present: yellow solid i know that if a carbonate is present it also forms a white solid so therefore you place any acid apart from hydrochloric acid so that the carbonate decomposes. Are there anymore exceptions? What makes some carbonates insouble and what makes most nitrates souble?
  10. My question: When a radioactive element decays it changes to other elements: why is it that most (if not all) radioactive materials decay to lead after giving off beta or alpha particles? Why should lead be the most stable element it decays into - what makes it special!?
