  1. Hello peeps, I'm here to ask for help! I'm undertaking a large project of creating high quality 3d models and images for the use of educators and enthusiasts. They are going to be realistic 3d visualizations of the Wardenclyffe Tower, which was meant to house Nikola Tesla's magnifying transmitter. PROBLEM: There is very little accurate reference on this subject. Only historical pictures of low graphic quality. I've found some semi-detailed visual references, but only on certain sections of the unfinished structure. SOLUTION: I am looking for people of appropriate skills, such as engineering or drafting, to help collect and layout accurate details the transmitter to accurate proportion based on the reference existing in our day (which is not much). This means having to use an amount of discernment in anticipating how things would have been done on the original invention where the photograph references obscure the details. Also knowing to a fair degree what the key instrument (the magnifying transmiter) that it housed would have looked like. I will be creating accurate 3d models around these. Project Goals: 1. Fully realistic 3d images of the tower and accompanying lab rendered from various angles, plus an image to replicate this traditional photograph: 2. Cut away views of finished tower/inner workings. 3. Back in the day, there was an artistic rendering of what the finished tower would look like. I will be adding these details as well to the model, also replicating a traditional concept. 4. A creative visualization of what a tower like this would look like if created in the near future based on design trends. If you know someone who would be interested please have them contact me through my website, facebook, etc. Anyone who helps will be credited. It can be more than one person, even a community effort. I am open to many scenerios, and I am a proven illustrator, so do not hesitate to seriously consider being a part of this if you are capable. A website will be created around the finished product giving credit to all involved. This will be a free work, but credit will go to those helping. The Blender 3d Model and accompanying work will also be released to the public under conditions that allow it to remain genuine.   3. I detect some humor here, but isn't it true that the abstract (pattern based) ability to do math is not related to the ability to add, subtract, multiply, etc?

For an understanding of magnetic fields and waves, as they are relevant to typical electrical sciences (and perhaps to some degree light) I was wondering if a knowledge of calculus should be all thats necessary to understand the mathematical aspect of it. On that note, if I am to understand Einstein's papers, what else should I learn? I'd like to know what other maths I should pursue to have a decent grasp of the above things.

  6. Or the they can be called "order of precedence"? I'd like to know why this is necessary -- how was it established. I'm making it a point to understand the necessity behind these things so I'm not just blindly following rules. You know...so my math skills are more intuitive. I'm asking for a relative, so Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. ...I couldn't resist throwing a corny joke in there.

  12. Thanks. Tell me...I find with many things I've undertaken to learn, once you get so far into it, things start to become second-nature, and climbing levels in skill is not so hard. I've found this true in 3d and vector art. Could the same be said of mathematics, or is it always a pain?
  13. This is my online shopping list: Free graphing calculator (open source?) all the bells and whistles, capable of most anything mathematical. Online mathematics course, free. Brings you from intermediate to advanced, in most math forms. Finally got the time to learn! Thanks.

Hi guys, Its my first post here, and I'm setting up some goals, so I was hoping I could get a few mathematics experts set me up with some helpful tips on making this journey in advanced math a success. Allow me a little extra length on my first post here in the maths forums: A while ago I started pursuing one of my larger life goals to learn the more advanced maths. Then I burnt out for perhaps a number of reasons, but lack of motivation was not one...the biggest was simply that I grinded to a hault because of a strange thing I experienced: Thinking I was understanding the rules on the level of algebra, but for some reason, never getting certain problems right at all. A frustrating thing. I concluded my mind was simply not built to percieve such things. Or perhaps I could not call to the front of my mind all the recently learned rules and details necessary for the problem. My ultimate goal is to one day be able to read Einstein's work with an amount of ease. My closer goal is to simply understand calculus. Between that span of then and now, I've come very far in vector and 3d work, as my real skill is design and illustration, in which I make a living. I've recently realized that learning the 3d environment and associated rules has probobly trained my mind with a foundation for many advanced maths...simply knowing the XYZ axis, bezzier curves (visually, not mathematically), certain concepts of topology, gradation, and so forth. I speculate that having witnessed all these things and worked within these parameters so much, I will now learn many mathematical explanations with an amount of recognition, having seen these frontiers in a different light, in 3d and vector art. So, I do not want to fail or fizzle this time. I've heard that learning mathematics is simple: Just do it. But I would like to know what else is going to help, to make my time well spent, and to train my mind which seems to be less geared in this area. I will appreciate any experience you can relate. I'll be around here quite a bit, when I get stumped especially. I'm rather hoping I can meet my calculus goal within a year. The purpose of this education is to explore certain ideas I've had for some time.
  15. In this case before any real human interaction transpired on the subject of the job, a booklet and sheet were tossed at me. I took them, read it carefully a while, more interested in the nature of the test than actually doing it...then when the time was up I tossed it back and walked out. But what I noticed is that the same questions were asked sometimes even three times, merely under subtly different guises. Obviously, the same answer would have to be chosen three times, avoiding contradictions which would flag you. I also noticed the question "Do you consider yourself an extremist?" and I realized that in answering "No" to this question but choosing "Strongly aggree or strongly disagree" on other questions often in the test might flag an applicant as well. In this case, passing the test regardless of my honesty would merely cause the computer to spit out my score with the label "Grade A Meat" which the human interviewer would read an quite happily invite me back for an interview. Nonetheless, I left with a new curiosity of exactly how this test works in depth.
  16. I was looking at one of those corporate application tests that run about 40 questions/problems that are to be complete in 20 minutes time. I noticed some obvious and not so obvious patterns in the nature of the questions, which are meant to simultaneously evaluate your honesty with your qualifications. I am absolutely fascinated with the fact that in these times a person's first interviewer is a computer! I know these forums are populated with the people who design these systems. Hence, I would absolutely love to know the dynamics this system is built on. What patterns exactly are built into them? How are the scores generated? What do they mean for the person? I'm going to be writing an article for a "Riddler's Corner" part of my website I am designing. Any links, comments, or imput collected from this thread will help in my research. Its not a very forthcoming subject in the searches I've done. I'm aware that even knowing the system doesn't give one a huge advantage, especially in light of the 20 minute time frame its given. My intent to give a humorous and educational insight to this system, since it does end up being like one grand puzzle if one intends to not simply bank on honesty to complete it. Thanks guys!
