  1. Here's my problem,

    1. My PC wont boot up in 133MHz FSB, the screen goes blank. It only boots up in 100MHz FSB (both CPU and Memory). Why?

    2. In XP, I get a LOT of Blue screens, and illegal program operations (the Send and Don't Send ones). What could be the problem?

For 1. I think it may be the SMPS, maybe it's faulty. Can anyone confirm?

For 2. I dont know, would it become alright if I change the SMPS, or is there any other problem, like memory or something?

  2. Since I dont have an inverse calculator, I'll put down the method over here.

    1. x = cos-1(64/64.005) [x is in radians]

    2. c = (2 pi - 2 x)* 6400

    3. d = 64000 * tan(x)

    4. d = 2 * d

    5. a = c + d.

    6. cout<<a

    7. a1 = 2*pi*6400

    8. a2=a-a1

    9. cout<< a1<<a2

I hope the above is self explanatory, if not, then here goes.

x is the angle bet. radius to tangent and distance from centre to highest point on ladder

2pi -2 x is remaining angle in radians

c is circumference of the portion excluding the 2 tangents.

d is the length of the tangent. 2d is for the 2 tangents.

a is the total final length of rubber band.

a1 is circumference of the standard spherical earth given in question.

a2 is the difference a.k.a stretch.

Now, just someone to calculate using these values...

  3. Or you could buy a book on Vedic Mathematics. It gives plenty of short cuts for any mathematical operations including but not limited to solving quadratic and simultaneous equations in the mind. The human brain indeed is very powerful. And once you get a hang of vedic maths which is really easy anyway, you'll do exponentials inside your skull.

  4. Do you people agree that culture is non -existent in the US?

Like take a country with a rich past heritage, legends, mythology etc etc. when the students are kids, they do have some one to look up to(in legends). Eg. Ram was idolized as good in Ramayana, and Pandavas in Mahabharat, so on and so forth. Over there they dont have any thing to look up to, and so go off-track at a very young age. How about the don't care it's your life attitude?

Please don't take this an an anti-US post, but here people live with their parents till they die or they move abroad. There's a proper and cohesive family system. Take greece for example, a country with mytho and all, I dont hear anything about murders from there.

If I've hurt somebody I'm sorry. I dont hate US, coz. all our fellowmen work there.

P.S. By now you must have guessed the country where I live.

  5. oh people if you are complaining about the education system there, you gotta come to India, particularly Mumbai. The engineering is Hellgineering. And see, India produces a lot of brains. So I guess its a tradeoff.

We over here are expected to study atleast till 21, ie 12th + 4 yrs Engg, or 3 years any other course like science arts etc. The competition is so bad that most of them take only Engineering or Medicine.

Oh, and did I mention that if you don't do a masters in either MBA or M.Tech or anything you dont get a proper job.

  6. Actually dumb of me,

    it was W2-W1.

    and gm is grams.

the amount means mass, because we are weighing both the containers( or both the cases).

Don't we use downward displacement of water to collect hydrogen? So you could simply use maths, total volume of test tube - (pi*r*r*h)

r=radius of tube, h=height of tube occupied by gas.

That's the simplest i can think of now.

  7. You said you used salt as a catalyst...that's exactly it. It goes faster coz salt is a catalyst.

Well actually water (pure) is a very bad conductor of electricity only 1 in 10^14 molecules dissociate. But when you add an ionic compound (salt, NaCl), it ionizes in water as Na+ and Cl- ions, hence readily conducting electricity, and thereby increasing the speed of electrolysis.

You could also increase the speed of electrolysis by increasing the current. There's a set of rules that I dont quite remember,

    W=Zit,

W = weigh of substance deposited, I= Current passed, T= time in seconds, and Z=E/F, where E= Equivalent weight of (err...i forgot, but I think it's the electrode), F=96500 coulombs...

So Z= electro chemical equivalent of metal.

Using this formula, you can calculate anything you want...

To measure the amount of Hydrogen, there's a really simple but cheap technique.

    Let,

W1=Weight of empty tube; W2=Weight of Tube containing hydrogen.

    therefore mass of hydrogen=W1-W2.

And to find STP volume you could always use

    1 mole=22.4 Lit

    2.00016 gm H2 = 22.4 Lit.

    x gm = y lit.

    y=22.4 * x/2.00016

About the colour change even I dont know, is it the liberation of Cl2 gas???? I have no idea.

  8. Well actually no. The color of the surface hardly matters coz the mouse just 'sees' the surface and its relative motion to the surface.

Like does it matter if you're being photographed in front of a green background or a blue one?

The main thing is that the mice (or mouses) don't like (1)transparent surfaces, or (2)surfaces with recurring patterns.

(1). The light just passes through them(glass), and doesn't reach the sensor so no movement is registered.

(2). The sensor gets confused in which direction the mouse moved and hence this results in jumpy motion

You must have found red the best coz maybe the red one must have been smoother than the whiter and nothing else.

  9. Instead of deleting the Windows folder you could rename it to be safe. And then install Xp. after that if you find everything fine then you can delete that folder from XP itself. I do that ecerytime and works like a charm.

  10. We're having a contest on building a radio transmitter.

The criteria is simple. Build a transmitter that sends voice, which can be tuned on a certain radio frequency nearby.

It's got to be cheap and the parts must be easily available.

So how do I go about it.

P.S. The cheapest and the most effective one wins.

  11. My PC is acting wierd these days.

    I've got AMD 2000+, 2x 256MB DDR Hynix, a normal 300 W SMPS, GeForce 4 MX 420(64MB DDR) at 4x, AC'97, Chipset is 7VTXE, Seagate 20GB Drive.

Now the problem is, when I set the bus frequency of the RAM or the Processor to 133MHz(either of the two), the PC fails to start. I mean there's no display on the monitor. But when they're @ 100MHz the PC works fine. So, now I'm not able to use either my processor (133Mhz x 12.5 but now running at 100MHz @12.5), or my RAM (133MHz x 2 but running at 100Mhz x 2) to full potential.

Is it the motherboard problem, or is it the SMPS problem. I'm suspecting the SMPS, but would like someone to guide me.

  12. I mean in a medium, say Air, the photon particles have to overcome air resistance. It might be negligible, but how about the same resistance in great distances(Say, in n AU), then wouldn't light gradually lose it's velocity(that too, while being in the same medium)
