  1. And you should read up on some of JaKiri's posts in this thread. The whole thread is about having an Advanced civilization somewhere in cosmos. That means this civilization is a complex life forms + Intelligence for technological advancement. A mibrobe will not work and at this point in time, a complex on a gas giant is well, incomprehensible by our current understanding of complex -aka. multicellular organism. Thereby, if all we did was to send numerous probes to various planets without running any tests on these planets before hand to see if they 'might' sustain life, then well, Sayonara is absolutely right where as we will be waisting countless billions of $$$'s and looking for imaginary life.
  2. I've never heard of it being said exactly as you put it, but it has it's benefits. Rice and Fish are a very good source of healthy dietary foods. That's why one should have a balanced mean, bit from meat group, bit from vegetable and fruit, bit of fish, bit of alcohol, etc. Good nutrition, regular exercise and avoidance of bad habbits(smoking, too much meat, too much bread, etc) can and usually lead to longer and healthier lives. Oh yeah, about the bacteria thing, yes it does and without E.coli bacteria you'll have many problems.
  3. Most gas stations have both. Well, maybe a 70-30 ratio, respectively. The problem arise when you have a car that produces lots of HP/Torque. My car is factory rated at 305HP, well, the engine is rated 305HP, but considering the HP loss, you could say that at the actual flywheel, it makes about 285-295HP(I've never dyno'ed the car so don't take that number for a fact). It is relatively light and has lots of torque. All in a word, it's a pretty powerful and fast car and when someone is driving way way below the speed limit, well, it makes one(certainly myself) want to cry. That though was a different situation all together because not only did I have to drive slow, I had problems making out things 2-4 meters in front of me.
  4. I know that I'm probably the only one here who's actually in Anthropology, and this question / response will be better if presented to someone who's studying Linguistic Anthropology, but I want to give it a shot anyway. Keeping a language pure(just work with me here): ie: no slang, no mix-ins of other languages 'popular' words, etc, is there a limit that will eventually be reached when writing a song? Meaning, taking say the (British)English(to appease the many members here ), can a society produce unique word combination with an equally unique musical combination? Just one further clarification: Songs with different word structures but similar notes/tones/melodies/harmony is what will not desired. Say taking a particular language, the possibility is almost limitless of creating new things or meanings. But say taking an intrument(violin) which has a finite tones or melodies that it can produce before stuff gets repetitive(not just in that one song, but each song must be unique). What are your thoughts on this IF any?
  5. I'd start out with this thread, and work up any further questions you might have, as I'd(or probably anyone else) hate to retype each thing. http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4195&highlight=rem+sleep
  6. Gives you some more info on skinning the book. http://www.netwrite-publish.com/crafts/sew-leather.htm Pricing is relavitely easy(and cheap) to find - depending on the material, but here's a link: http://www.tandyleather.com/products.asp?dept=27
  7. Heh, what part of post #7 do you find so confusing? On a second though, someone, please help me! Look at Post #7. See where it sais 'Authors name here' and then I included <-[ABLERTLEE Here]? That is a modification of the original GPL and it will create problems for you IF you were to modify the code and release it to the public with YOUR name on it, thereby you will claim ALL of the credit for that source code. If you modify the name to yours but DON'T release the code to the Internet, then no one's going to know about it. Right?
  8. Is it a book that you're thining of mass producing or keeping it unique? If unique, I'd use pigskin(don't know if it's actually pig's skin, but you know what I mean). Kind of like this book:
  9. For some reason I though that there may have been a modern reconstruction of the old customs regarding that one, but I had to make sure. So there has been changes (modernization) in the old feudal system. When did that happen? Reason is, when the time comes for my doing a Ph. D thesis, I'll probably base it on the (US)Indians, unless I think of something worthy(yeah I know, there are Lots and lots of things there, but right now I'm trying to limit my research/studies on the Native Americans) on the european populace. That's why I'm looking for that information.
  10. I thought that the 'string/superstring theory' was replaced by the M-theory?
  11. I found this article, that may answer that question, check it out: http://sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&articleID=00042F0D-1A0E-1085-94F483414B7F0000&pageNumber=1&catID=2
  12. They are all crap. One thing that irritates me the most is their idea of alien species. Even a single facial deformity constitutes an alien race. Go Star Wars.
  13. At least I though so. About a year ago, I saw a show about worlds dumbest drivers(or something like that) and they showed a woman somewhere in England filled her car with Diesel fuel as opposed to the regular one. So as she was driving there was a huge while wall of smoke that she was leaving behind. It was so bad that the cop who was trying to pull her over, was having trouble avoiding other cars. Today, when I got stuck in the very same situation. The woman had somehow did the same thing and was producing very much the same scene that I saw on the TV. It was funny at first, but quickly turned to utter dismay because that was a single lane rd and no possibility to overtake her(plus she was driving 30-35mph in a 55mph zone). I'm not sure about the gas stations in Europe, but here, it is impossible to fill diesel into a non-diesel vehicle here. The size of the hole is much smaller for the regular petrol gas. Is that about the same in Europe? Or do they have those as one size fits all kind of thing? Anyway, I just though I'd share that.
  14. Thanks to all those who responded(even though half of youz guys are silly ), but a few more questions on this matter. If someone(scientist or other) has just recently been granted a knighthood(as opposed to it being inherited) does that mean that his children also automatically inherit the title of a 'Sir' when then are born? What about those that are already living? Also, have there been any demographic studies of the total European population with titles vs. those who aren't? How about a similar study but one that's showing the socioeconomic breakdown of the populations in terms of title holders vs. non? If you have any links on this, it would greatly simplify my life. Thanks.
  15. It would be nice if you had some linkage or at least if you could remember the title of that book. On a side note, I wanted to leave that nonsense theory brought up in #20 as simply 'ludicrous', but for some reason Sayonara's post makes me uneasy, so I'll need to elaborate a tad more on it. The idea that there was an advanced civilization some 5mya is nonsense because there has been absolutely no evidence found of it. Unless one assumes that either Aliens or the Australopithecines did it, which would be comical. Even if you take into the equation the fact that the Sphinx is in a desert (now) and this civilization might have existed while Africa was still a lush forest and that with the exception of Sphinx itself all other archeological data is deep beneath the constantly shifting sands - thereby nearly impossible, a potassium-argon test on the sphinx will certainly doom that theory.
  16. Heh, so much for my attempt at a civil debunking, but this works as well
  17. Family Guy is awesome. Although the new Simpsons season is not bad.
  18. Pyrotechnics? Rofl. What are these guys teaching the students? Better way, err, more efficient ways to set things on fire? ASTRONAUTICAL ENGINEERING
  19. There is such a thing as parthenogenesis. Also, there's recently been a few studies done with rodents that didn't require sperm for them to produce offsprings. While these tests may still be unethical in human trials, it may be possible to come up with similar results. So you're not entirely right there. But what you're said in the above post, does come from male dominance point of view.
  20. Heh, what just happened here?
  21. I'm no mac expert, heck, I'll never own one, but Post what you've got and maybe it'll go in the direction you want.
