  1. it's retarded to do any chemistry without safety gear. that said, you need confinement for an explosion to occur and from the video I saw, the ignition did not appear to be intense enough to shatter the cylinder. the demonstrator in the video was also wearing safety goggles and the audience was out of the picture. and just to be clear, wear your goggles people, that is of course unless you don't value the ability to see.
  2. try the power of the google, this is a pretty basic reaction with all kinds of information already out there.
  3. Hess's law => delta H of the reaction = delta H of the products - delta h of the reactants. You are not calculating the enthalpy of formation of ammonium chloride, you were already given this, you are calculating the delta H of the reaction.
  4. The short answer is no. With electron microscopes you can see how crystalin polymer chains pack, but you can't resolve individual chains. If you have a good film you can get pretty good resolution using atomic force microscopes. The one thing you can see with an optical microscope and a couple polarizers is birefringence caused by crystalin domains.
