  1. I believe that someone is innocent unil proven guilty. This should go across the board, not just in the criminal sense. Farming out the dirty work to vendors should not buffer the government against the consequences of breaking the spirit of American justice. However, if that how the game is now suppose to be played than maybe we can extrapolate the theme. Anything worse or that costs more than drugs in the workplace should also be subject to the same treatment. One thing that comes to mind are lying polititians. We should have random lie detector tests since these lies can add up to a great deal of expense for the American people.

  2. I agree with what you are saying but I may not be fully explaining what I am saying. If I was on a spaceship traveling near C, I would age slower than someone left behind on the earth, because of my time dilation. If I could somehow watch a newborn on earth from conception to birth, from my spaceship, instead of taking nine months in my reference, it would only appear to take say one hour in my reference (just to use a number). If I was unknowingly watching the earth reference, but thought I was seeing this same event from my spaceship reference, I would be amazed how fast this baby developed. It would appear to defy all explanation using the exisiting laws of chemistry and physics. Ignorance of knowing which reference is being observed could appear to create anomolies.

What I was saying before, because our earth reference is not stationary, we may be seeing zero reference phenomena, here and there, but are assuming they are part of our moving reference. The result would be very fast events that appear to be anomalous. If we explained them as though they were actually occurring in our reference (which they were not) we would probably come up with imaginary explanations. I made up the term negative special relativity as the needed adjustment to normalize zero reference phenomena to our moving reference. In other words, if we give the baby anomoly this special relativity adjustment it would not longer appear to defy the known laws of chemisty and physics.

  3. One of the stronger arguments for the drugs laws and the need to bend the rules to deal with it, is do to the inability of leadership to solve the problem. They are usually better at creating problems than solving them. I am no activist, even on my own accord. But that does not mean I do not have a little common sense.

As a hypothetical social thought experiment, I would like to create a social parallel to the drug problem so one can see how it forms and evolves. The group I would like to bully are the natural remedy marketplace. My prescription drug business is losing money and the shareholders are on my ass to do something. A cost effective path is to lobby Washington since R&D is more expensive and may not give me what I need in the short term. I am willing to grease many palms. What I need them to do is outlaw the entire natural remedy market. I did my homework, I am can make a strong case using 10% of the data that shows a wide variety of these products can cause harm. The other 90% of the data I will ignor since it would weaken my case. Besides, these guys want the money, they just need a good prefabricated line of bull so they can create the illusion of doing something good for the American people.

I realize many of these natural drugs are actually useful, so I also need to grease a few palms at the FDA. They do not have to reject things, that would look to suspicious, they only have to delay them long enough for the politians to muddy the water. Then it will be easier to reject them without raising as many eyebrows. My hope is that the market will shift back to my synthetic products. If the stockholders see the ball starting to roll they will cut me some slack.

Once the ball gets rolling, good citizens who yesterday were going about their lives, as usual, full of hope, now become instant criminals. The lawyers will love this since I just created thousands of new cases. I may even get a kickback from the lawyers to offset some of my investment.

Because it is an unjust law, people will sense that and refuse to go along. Those who don't lose anything by the law, since they do not use natural remedies, won't care either way. But eventually will realize that they can use the law as an excuse to be a-holes. I hate my neighbor, now I have a way to legally stick it to him. Besides he is inferior to me because he is an criminal and I am not.

The former shop keeper, who was making a descent living to feed his family and enjoy life, will want to continue. With supplies being cut back, he will have to raise prices and maybe even go underground and become part of the blackmarket. This strategy may actually increase his profits so he can go from tee-shirts to gold chains. In his mind, there is nothing wrong with what he is doing since he is helping people get what they want, or now what they need, because things are getting scarcer.

If a lot of the citizens are ignoring the govenment, since they believe they are on someone's payroll, the government will have to get tougher and set some target examples to scare the others. The little old lady who has grown a medicine root for sixty years, that she makes tea from, and shares with her neighbors, because it settles the stomach, becomes the center of a swat bust. In the eyes of the law she is as guilty as anybody who disobeys the law and taking her down will show everyone that the law applies to everyone (except those at the top).

Eventually, the blackmarket gets organized and is able to lobby the local polititians and police forces. These officals personally don't see the big problem with their neighbors using these natural remedies, but their duty is to enforce the law. If they turn their heads every now and then, it may actually satisfy some of the guilt assoociated with doing their jobs. The internal complacency causes the govenment to need to act even stricter and begins to decentralize and spread its tenticles into the country. The parallel result will be addiction and dependancy that didn't happen before the law. Some people are compulsive with the sweetest fruits being the forbidden fruits. Other are low in self esteem and this a way to reinforce that believe with the negative help of the self rightoeus.

If we let the experiment run long enough we forget about the original cause and only look at the predictament we are in. One assumes that if we ever repeal the law all hell would break loose. The fact of the matter, the law caused this hell to break loose. If we changed the law this late in the game, it would also mean a lot of lost jobs. There are a lot of lawyers, judges, prison workers, police, rehab, etc type jobs dependant on this law. The curent political solution is to use the law as a way to create even more jobs. It is a perfect job creator because it will never end, since the more jobs created the worse the problem becomes, requiring more jobs, etc.. All these jobs are based on blood money, the blood of victumless crimes.

  5. Your genetic selective evolution approach may work, but like Sisyphus aluded to, it would probably lead to intermediate things first. As each new species pops up, you would have to do the same procedure. Once you begin to see the evolutionary hierarchy maybe your selection should push it in the needed intermediate direction instead of directly to human.

A faster way would require some parallel gene shifting on your part. The DNA of a species is not just the sum of the genes but is also a function of the orderring of those genes. In other words, it a needed gene is in the wrong position its affect may remain latent. One would have to cut it out and put it in a better position so its latency period can be reduced.

One can even get fancier still. The ordering of the genes on DNA reflects a certain hydrogen bonding equilibrium. As an analogy, a three carbon alcohol can have the -OH group on a least two different positions leading to slightly different properties. In a similar way the orderring of the genes will impact slightly different chemical properties to the DNA. This can be correlated to hydrogen bonding potential. The idea is to subject the DNA to the needed external equilibrium potential while slicing and dicing the DNA with enzymes. The reformed DNA by being closer in hydrogen bonding potential with also be closer in structural properties. It may not be perfect but could allow one to jump intermediate species.

  6. Let me explain this better. We assume that the earth is the zero reference and we measure the red shift of the universe relative to this reference. But only the religious people believe that the earth is at the center of the universe, i.e., absolute zero reference, with the rest of the universe working around us. As a scientist, I believe that the Milky Way is also in motion. This means that our zero reference is not zero at all, but has relativistic velocity away from the true zero reference of the universe. In other words, we are actually on a relativity express to some degree but are calling it zero for convenience. We appear to be time dilated, distance contracted and mass increased relative to an absolute zero reference that has no universal motion. What that means is that there is a reference below our moving reference.

What I called negative special relativity is an artifact of us calling our moving Miky Way reference the zero stationary reference. This reference would have to be adjusted downward in sort of a negave way to express the real absolute zero reference. If we called the absolute zero reference zero, there is no negative special relativity because everything starts at the proper reference.

Along the lines of us moving and not being at a true zero reference, maybe there are phenomena from the zero reference that we come upon in accelerator experiments that are anomolies only because they are in a downward reference from us.

  7. If we look at criminal offenses like murder, assault, stealing, etc., these are treated as crimes in all cultures. These are examples of universal crimes that are independant of cultural bias. The way they are treated within various cultures, may vary from culture to culture, but in all cultures something will be done to achieve their version of justice.

The other type of crimes are culturally dependant and therefore will vary from country to country. These are not universal crimes but crimes made up by people for various reasons, usually self interest. For example, in a very repressive country, reading the wrong book, can have severe consequences. One may be beaten, their property siezed, maybe they will thrown into prison and maybe even tortured or shot. If we do the math, such a culture perpetrates three or more universal crimes to deal with one subjective cultural crime. The real criminals (state) are not punished for their universal crimes, but may actually get rewards (promotions, split the booty) for their crimes.

The inforcement of cultural crimes, using actions that violate the universal standards of crime, is not limited to repressive fourth world cultures. It occurs within our own country; USA. The easiest example to see is connected to property siezure during drug related crimes. The inforcement of this cultural crime, which is not the same in all cultures, makes use of the universal crime; stealing. The more that is legally stolen by the state the more rewards are split among the violators of the universal crime. Don't get me wrong I do not advocate drugs; too many/much drugs will make you stupid. This includes the legal stuff that is often overprescribed. On the other hand, in the right amounts, both can be useful.

An example of criminal violation of constitutional rights, is connected to the presumption of innocents until proven guilty. Drug testing allows one to be assumed guilty until they prove their innocence with the drug test. If one refuses the test, they are guilty even if they are innocent. Even a murderer has more rights than that in our culture. I am not sure why a class action suit has not been file to gain civil damages suffered at the hands of legal criminals. I think criminal charges would go too far.

Here what we can do, we will just presume that the bums that advocate this policy are guilty of this offense against the constituiton and they must prove their innocents with a random lie detector test. We will give them a taste of their own medicine. If they refuse to take the test, they get fired. If they take it and fail, we will probe deeper in other possible violations of law that we can assume them guilty of. Three strikes and their out. I am just kidding about this last stuff. I believe in a person being innocent until they are proven guilty. It should apply to all and not just the universal crime type criminals like murderers, rapists, etc.

  8. How we should share the taxt burden is up for debate, but whatever it happens to be, if each tax payer could have a say as to where their dollars go, at least one would feel some type of satisfaction. The current tax code should come with a jar of vasoline. If one could have a say as to how they are going to take it, it may not be a painful.

  9. How big would the darkstar need to be to get the results observed? I have a theory that could explain the renewal of the surface and the observation it occurs only at its farthest orbital path from the sun. You said this was a zone of all kinds of objects both large and small. Maybe Xena goes through a gravel or hail belt that erodes the surface as it passes. This would heat and polish the surface every trip through the car wash.

  10. Although nanobots may be able to build DNA, someday, it is little more complicated than just two DNA helixes and proper base pairing. A length of DNA has a gene order to it. If the nanobot simply makes long random lengths of these genes, it would come out being something different they may not function properly. We first need to understand why genes have the orderring they do. This logic could lead to using nanobots to custom design lifeforms.

  11. Using 100 % of the brain and using 100% of the brain's capacity are two different things. During a fight/flight scenario, one could get the entire brain into gear, with all the sensory systems, muscles, etc., all geared up for action. This max brain power may even give one superhuman strength (much stronger faster) as the brain discharges neural current in the muscles. Although this may be 100% percent brain activity, for that task, it is by no means defines all the brain's capacity to do everything else it can do.

This is why exercise is good for the health and mind. One uses the muscles to discharge the brain. When you are done much of the brain stress is neutralized.

  12. Science is dependant on the universe it observes, combined with its expectations of what it is suppose to be. When everyone thought the earth was the center of the universe, that expectation defined how the universe was percieved by science. The astronomers did a excellent job correlating the path of the planets and stars, with what little they had to work with, based on the earth center assumption. The correlation was so good, that it was eventually used as proof that the earth was indeed the center of the universe. It becomes a self forfilling type of thing after a few generations forget it was only a good practical assumption at one time.

  13. Maybe we can do it the opposite way because it might be cheaper. Why not broadcast the world's most powerful signal into space via an orbitting satallite that moves in all directions around the earth. If the aliens are more advanced than us, they may have the technology to find us. On the other hand, that may make us look like a wounded animal, causing all the alien raiders to come here for fun and profit.

  14. If a planet exploded and atomized the water and atmosphere, with space being so cold, the water would reform again because the water molecule is such a stable low energy state of chemistry. One will eventually get all types of space clumps composed of minerials within an ice matrix.

  15. One way to lose the water is for it to go down into the planet. As we increase the temperature and pressure of water we reach its critical point. At the critical point, water can do nasty things to minerial. One possible scenario, is if the core of the earth cooled enough, the water will dissolve downward to corrode the iron core, gradually depleting the surface water. Maybe this is what happened to Mars?

  16. If I was to approach AIDS logically, what we know about AIDS is that there are only limited ways to transmit it between people, usually by sexual contact or the transfer of body fluids, especially blood. This shows us that skin is resistant to AIDS infiltration since the virus cannot transport itself into the blood this way. The sexual transfer tells us that the sexual areas of the body appear to have the transport protein needed to get the AIDS virus into the blood supply. We can use this to our advantage. Once we find a tough cell that can digest the virus we add some the sexual area transport proteins to these cells so the virus can be absorbed directly from the blood.

The cells of the digestive system are probably good candidates. I also like the liver (I hate liver), because it has a lot of chemical reaction variety on its genetic differentiation plate.

  17. If we put thing in historical perspective western culture has its roots in Greece and then Rome. Around the fourth century AD, the Catholic church was formed in the giese of the Holy Roman Empire. The Church ruled the roost of the empire, but eventually set up the divine kingdoms with kings who had the divine right over life and death. It was a time when the church began to share power with the secular state, although they still had controlled things at the top. About 14th-16th centuries the kingdoms began to increasingly separate from the church, with the church becoming more secular, then breaking down into upteen independant franchises. Maybe once the founding fathers saw the corruption in fast food religion they realized it had no place in govenment. But at the same time, they included the best of religion as the basis for constitution.

  18. I would like to present an interesting angle to ponder. The mathematics of special relativity does not make provisions for negative special relativity, since velocity squared is the same for both negative and positive velocity. However, consider this scenario. We are on a spaceship traveling a fraction of the speed of light to another galaxy. The special relativity affect is measureable but somewhat small. Because it is going to be a long trip that may take several generations, we decide to normalize our reference as the zero reference. The thinking is this is an easier way to collect data and when we return to the earth we can just translate it using the math.

In essense, the earth reference will be defined via negative special relativity with respect to the zeroed spaceship reference. If we look at the earth, it is not stationary. We rotate on our axis, we revolve around the sun, the sun moves within the galaxy and our galaxy is part of a universe expansion that is probably red shifted with respect to some absolute zero point in the universe (if such a point could be found). The implication is that we are not on the most fundamental zero reference. As such, we should be able to experience negative relativity phenomena on the earth associated with things that occur within a zero universe reference.

What negative special relativity would imply is something that does not appear to last very long in our reference. It will be very small with respect to its measured size and its mass would be very small. If it moved into our finite earth reference, it would now last longer, appear larger and appear to gain mass. It is sort would look like something insignificant becoming something more substantial.

  19. What you are saying has some truth to it. Logic is based on cause and affect relationships we see in the world around us. If we plot these cause and affect relationships on a piece of paper with the x-axis being cause and the y-axis being affect, we could paint pictures using logic. The art of science. The problem with drawing on a 2-d plane is that one can also create abstract art, 3-D drawings in 2-D space, optical illusions, etc., just like a good artist can on his 2-D canvas.

The question becomes how can one decide which is objective reality and which is subjective reality since both can be drawn on the same plane? One artist can take a photo of a forest and another will paint the forest. Sometimes the painting is more appealing due to the subjective affect it will create within our minds. Although the photo could be enhanced in Photo Shop to give it more subjective glitter.

  20. The constitution has a provision for separation of church and state. The idea was to not let religious lobbyists gain too much power and influence within Washington. That makes it easier for all the other lobbyists more concerned with worldly affairs.

If we want to take this literally to separate anything that has to do with religion from the state, we need to get rid of AD and BC, with respect to how we measure historical time, since they both refer to Christ. Where should we start a nonreligious equated calendar, the BB, the formation of the earth, when life appears, when culture first appears? I am kidding around, but this is a throny technicality. Or are we suppose to just cherry pick what we keep and throw out.

  21. After someone dies, the cells begin to digest themselves for recycle. Up to the point where the cells become overly disrupted, one should be able to respark life. This is done during operating deaths stemming from heart attacks all the time. There is a time span when doctors stop trying. The youngest, like babies, are still growing, and may be able to regenerate the cells from further into the cellular deteriation process.

The definition of death tells us something about the inception of life. It is not continued biochemistry, such as recycle or growing hair, that defines if someone is alive or dead, but the medical criteria is connected to brain function and the heart. This could be a good criterion for when the unborn is considered alive. It is not biochemistry alone that decides when the unborn is alive, but when it becomes the opposite of dead, i.e., brain and heart become activated together.

This raises ethical issues. However, if biochemistry alone is to considered as the deciding ethical factor of life, than we should not be able to bury people until their hair and fingernails stop growing or we would be burying them alive according to this biochemical standard of life.

  22. Another good source of exercises is to go to the fraternities and ask if you can copy some of their exam file archives. There should have all type of good problems that the professors have come up with over the years, organized to reflect your level of expertise.
