  1. This is not really that good....the three quotes he uses from the Koran arent really relevant. Additionally Einstein never said there was a God...he was using that as a metaphor...Einstein was an atheist! And not to mention that the big band WASNT an explosion by what we now class as explosions

  2. Typically when you writting out the electronic structure, you number the orbitals and then fill them up. So for dihydrogen you would have:

1[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{2}[/math] because you have two electrons in the first sigma bond.

Then taking for exxample diberylium you would have

1[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{2}[/math] 1[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{*2}[/math] because you have two electrons in the first sigma bond and two in the first antisigma bond (* referes to an antibonding). This actually shows why diberlieium doesnt exists, the overal bond order is 0.

Then you again repeat the process for say dinitrogen

    1[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{2}[/math] 1[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{*2}[/math] 2[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{2}[/math] 2[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{*2}[/math] 1[math]\pi[/math][math]^{4}[/math] 3[math]\sigma[/math][math]^{2}[/math]

This site helped me when I was learning about MO theory. Note the numbers after the greek letters are supposed to be superscript but I couldnt get them to work!

Sorry I dont understand what your asking for the second part of your questions.

  3. The irritation you experienced is probably from the DCM. I've split that on me before and it does effect your skin. While MeI is a carcinogen and not very nice for ur skin but with that said you should keep an eye on the area. If the irritaton doesnt go away after a day or two then you should go back to the doctor.

  4. Are you sure that the reaction of lithium oxide with dilute nitric acid would be slow?

I would have expected "violent" to be a better description.

How does that react then? Lithium oxide is pretty stable to acid isnt it? When you add air oxidised lithium to water and it reacts, isn't that due to the fact that the total surface is not oxidised and so leaves small areas of lithium metal to react with the water?

  5. The mineral oil can be removed easily by washing it with hexane/petrol. However be very sure that you do it carefully incase it burns which could be rather dangerous!

I would advice against adding an alkali metal to acid but if u use tiny amounts and cold acid you should be ok....but only if your confident of ur ability!

  6. Well if you are not inteending to use chemistry as a career, then GCSE is as much as you would need in everyday life and other job areas. There is a very large jump from GCSE to A-level in terms of ideas and understanding which you'll only need if you're planning on using it at Uni

  7. Chemistry is not just about mixing A and B together to get C. Granted some of chemistry is like that but you need to remember that the hard part is working out what you need to add, how much, when to add, how to purify, is what I got what i expceted, stereocontrol, getting a good yeild etc....thats just synthetic chemistry.

Chemistry also involves the study of kinetics of reactions (i.e. how fast they go), determining mechanisms (the route a reaction takes), theoretical chemistry (using computer models to estimate how certain reactions may proceed), structural studies (the structure and arrangement of atoms etc)

So no chemistry is not just about mixing stuff together!

  8. Rage and shock do strange things to otherwise logical people. It think it would be natural that if someone stole what you held most dear that you would want to punish them for doing it.

  9. You could consider the different subjects they study.

In ym experience, women tend to study biological based subjects where as men tend towards physical subjects (e.g. maths, engeneering)

  10. The wish list of Robert Boyle was recently found outlining what he predicted science would achieve.

Several of his predictions seem to be rather good; development of ures for infections, traveling underwater, hair dye!

With that, what are peoples new wish lists that you predict will occur in the next 100 years or so.

I'd like to see medicine that is personally taloired (i.e. not general for a certain disease), humans living on another planet/moon/asteroid, a clean form of energy to serve the whole world.
