BTW, it doesn't mean anything and is normal if you haven't used LSD in the past.

Get on with your life, mate. . .

    sorry for annoying you.

I apologize for coming across that way.

It was a failed attempt to ease any anxiety that you may have.

I was just saying that it's probably normal and nothing to worry about.  See Phosphenes and CEV

I'm glad you're going to the doctor tho.  Hopefully it's nothing serious.

It's also clear that the religious forums here aren't meant  to promote religion as much as they are to provide a platform to bash it. . .

You don't see the bashing on both sides?

    Of course I do. . .

It's no different than religious sites where bigots come it and start bashing people's beliefs. .

But just like this forum, they invite it with science subsections. . .

Then everyone starts bitching at each other.

  3. Not sure what you mean.

But when I shook a co-workers hand once, he noticed that my index finger extended out toward his wrist as if I was feeling his pulse.  It was completely involuntary on my part.  It's just the way I shake hands.  It clearly caused a chemical reaction in his brain and we bonded as best friends.

can we put the entire religion forum as a subsection to mythology

One of the biggest complaints against religion in this forum is, "THIS IS A SCIENCE FORUM!"

So why even have a religion section in a science forum anyway?  You'd think they'd have a history section before religion, right?  But the fact is that history isn't as divisive/entertaining as religion and wouldn't draw in nearly as much people.

It's also clear that the religious forums here aren't meant  to promote religion as much as they are to provide a platform to bash it. . .

  6. Good stuff on the first video.

As for the second, Lady Gaga and I have a love/hate relationship. . .

Je veux ton amour et je veux ta revanche, Je veux ton amour. . .

Here's the true Lady Gaga.  A side of which many of you may have not seen.

I love it.  She reminds me of the cool headbanging chicks in high school we'd hang with at belle Isle.

If you can state your occupation, then why not your gender?

If it's such a big deal, why not just have an "About Me" section only?

You’re the only one who seems to be making a big deal out of it.

Really, I'm the only one making a big deal out of it?  That's why there is a thread that has actually been created on the subject, and then the option for gender is almost immediately removed?

    Why was it removed?

    14 minutes ago, hypervalent_iodine said:

Personally I don’t see the point, but if letting people know your gender is important to you, you can always write it into your About Me section.

The same with your occupation and all the other details of your life.

    • Jesus said you have to live according to the Jewish law, i.e. prepare by being morally good, doing good works and loving God and each other.
    • Paul, on the other hand, said that people should accept Jesus as saviour, that's all. For gentiles (non-Jews) it is not necessary to keep to the Jewish laws.

Can you include supporting verses please?

So the Catholic Church (and I assume most protestant churches too. Or are the protestant boys circumcised? Or don't protestants eat pork?) are not Christians, but Paulians.

Then where did the idea of Christianity come from, wouldn't it still be Judaism?  If Jesus just taught the same basic Jewish laws that everyone else was doing for the past 6,000+ years, then why was he so special?  If you could just keep the same Jewish laws and be saved, then why did they get all pissed off and kill him?  What was the significance of his death according to the text?

My opinion, good things generally occur when people get tired of other people insisting on doing things in name of God.

Nonsense.  Both good and bad things happen in the name of God, and both good and bad things happen that have nothing to do with God.

When we are taught that only God is good. It is little wonder that we have so little faith in men, but all good things are done by men.

What is the good of man if it's not defined by the worst of man?

Good is often defined by that which mitigates the bad.

For example, a man sacrificing his life by shielding a child from a bullet.  Is it really a "good" thing that a man had to die in order to protect a child?

The diet is horrible (the sodium in 6 cups of black olives and all those chips is waaaay over the daily limit)

Right.  If "per meal" means 3 time a day, then:

18 oz of chips -  180 grams of fat, 3000 mg of sodium
6 cup of olives - 78 grams of fat,  7000mg of sodium

My main point being that taking the worst case based on the accusations as we know them (other than the drugging and raping accusation) is nothing of public concern.

It seems the only reason those less severe accusations went public was because of the drugging/rape allegations.

Well, let's make it happen.  If we keep reposting this idea, maybe it'll go viral and scare the shit out of everyone while building confidence in BTC.  I could use some extra Christmas cash. . .

Edit: Looks like crypto is on the up across the board, with the exception of a few.  Huge gains are coming.  All Aboard!

Ya well, my mistake, you need a heating element in the microwave. This one demonstrates it. Apparently a material capable of absorbing microwave to create a browning effect.

Bread is one of the foods that change texture in the microwave. If I microwave bread to the temperature my toaster makes it, the bread will be chewy and tough.

Right.  I like to warm up hotdog/hamburger buns in the microwave, but anything past 10-15 seconds seems to ruin them. The guy in the video had the Grilled cheese in the browning microwave for 10 minutes, so I'm guessing the "combi" method uses extremely low power in this instance.

It seems to me that it would still be easier to just throw the sandwich on pan and be done with it.  I've even made grilled cheese sandwiches in the toaster that took less than 10 minutes. . .

Steak should never be on the grill longer than about 10 minutes total,

I prefer quick searing as well.   Sometimes I like to broil it under a chimney starter using lump charcoal.  90 seconds on each side and then on top of the chimney starter for about 1 min.  Apparently it's the closest we can get steakhouse quality without buying a $10k commercial broiler.  I'll do a 3-day dry aged if I can bring myself to wait that long.   Instruction below, if interested:

An alternative is to use an uniform water bath (sous vide) to get the desired effect.

That seems pretty interesting.  I'd like to try that sometime.  Obviously you'd have to sear afterwords for a nice crust.

I've found a pretty informative website linked below.  Apparently you can also make a DIY water bath as well.

An Interesting thing I found on that site is that the amount of juice loss depended on the desired temperature of the steak rather than the length of time it was cooked.

A well done steak at 160 degrees lost about 10x the amount of juice than a rare/medium steak at 120-140 degrees.

Perhaps I should get a combi oven and never use the microwave part...

Wouldn't that just be like an inferior toaster oven without a heating element on the bottom?

Another option is an air fryer.  I have one and love it.  I was very surprised with the quality.   I still have jet to cook a steak in it, but sausage, pizza, stuffed peppers and fries/chips come out very good.  Good browning and crispiness when you need it.

Let's hear some recipes for microwave scrambled eggs.

The only time I have microwaved eggs is for an Eggo sandwich.  1-2 eggs, a splash of milk/cream, and pinch of salt/pepper.  Place the scrambled egg in a bowl with approximately the same diameter as the Eggo.  Microwave for about  :45 -1:30 depending.

Scoop the egg out and place on a toasted Eggo with prosciutto or thinly sliced ham and lettuce/tomato to balance out the saltiness of the ham.

Cutting the sandwich  in half for some reason makes it taste better.

We don't like members simply posting verses for the same reason we don't like members posting videos or links with no commentary - it lacks the context necessary to continue discussion

Ya, I get that.  My point was that many Christians feel that a simple verse may adequately address a particular question/problem, but I understand that that's not always the case.

Except that different Christians sometimes interpret the same verses in different ways.

Ya, duh.  That's exactly what I was talking about.  Even you might interpret it differently.  Sometimes it's just better to let people believe what they want to believe.  They will see whatever they want to see no matter how hard I try to convince them otherwise.

If people were allowed to discuss the bible on this forum your questions might be answered.  But were not.  I'm being kicked out very soon, 99.9999% sure.

We can discuss the bible here, and you don't have to be kicked out.  Just take your time, pray on the questions and respond accordingly.  As long as we don't give the impression that we're shoving our beliefs down everyone's throat, it shouldn't be a problem, and it will be respected.

I am not sure how to get through to him that you can't just quote the bible in an argument and expect people to take it as fact. I guess that's how he has been trained and conditioned to argue from years of churching...  I used to be like it myself.

We like to use scripture alone because it keeps us from adding any of our own possibly flawed interpretations.  For many Christians the point of any given verse is pretty obvious, but it seems to be even more obvious that a bit of commentary helps, and in many cases may actually be necessary.
