A cylindrical plasma column of radius a contains a coaxial magnetic field B=Bo z and has a pressure profile p=po cos^2 (pi*r/2a) Calculate the maximum value of po using this value of po calculate the diamagnetic current j® and the total field B® If the cylinder is bent into a torus with the lines of force closing upon themselves after a single turn this equilibrium in which the macroscopic forces are everywhere balanced is obviously disturbed. Is it possible to redistribute the pressure(r, theta) in such a way that the equilibrium is restored

  5. Ok, interesting question. "Fresh milk separates spontaneously into cream, which floats to the surface with watery below. Homogenized milk is made by breaking the cream into tiny droplets and mixing them into the rest of the milk. This prevents the cream from separating. Is homogenized milk homogeneous or heterogeneous?" How do I determine this? ....Ok, I think i got it. It's homogeneous. Because of the tiny droplets and mixing them into the rest of the milk makes it homogeneous, which is clearly not visible. Therefore, it's homogeneous. If it wasn't broken down into tiny droplets and mixing them, it would be heterogeneous. Am I right? …

  7. Hello everyone, after struggling for a good hour to find an answer without success, I decided to come here and ask my question hoping that someone would be able to help me. So, in my biochemistry lab, we had to measure the effect of different factors, such as a change of temperature, ionic strenght and the effect of dilution on a Trizma base buffer adjusted to a pH of 7.5. Now, my problem concerns the dilution. I know that usually, dilution should not affect the pH of a buffer solution because the ratio [A-]/[AH] doesn't change. For the experience, we had to do 3 dilution: 1/2, 1/10 and 1/100. I measured the pH of my deiinized water and it is approximately 5.7…

If an ideal gas undergoes a reversible adiabatic expansion, then the entropy change would be zero, since reversible heat exchange is zero. What happens if the gas undergoes an irreversible adiabatic expansion? I know, since its irreversible, the entropy should increase, but my undergraduate chemistry course book argues that since entropy is a thermodynamic function, it doesn't depend on the path; so should be equal to the reversible one: zero? Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks!

So, I had my first Mechanics II exam. There was one particular problem that drove me absolutely insane. I had no idea how to tackle it. Since I won't get the test back for another week or two, I decided someone here might be able to help me. The question is (roughly): A particle is moving in an elliptical orbit. The ratio of the maximum angular momentum to the minimum angular momentum of the particle is 'n'. Prove that the eccentricity of the orbit is [math]\epsilon = \frac{\sqrt{n}+1}{\sqrt{n}-1}[/math]. So, what should I have done to start this problem? I'm thinking it has something to do with the relationship between the r0 or r1, but I'm not sure.

Hi guys Im a bit stuck. Im trying to understand how msg works. I'm really puzzled as to how glutamate tricks the brain into thinking all foods are a protein. Or if this isn't the case how excess glutamate improves the taste of non-protein or in fact any foods? I kind of get (i use get very loosely) what happens when the msg makes it upstairs (accelerated firing, calcium channels remaining open) but its the journey from the tongue to the brain that Im really stuck on. Can anyone make things a bit clearer for me? Thanks

How do I make a decent prediction from a scientific hypothesis?? This has been coming up a lot in different areas of my school work. It's not so easy Here's one example: "Exposure to bacteria and waste products present in and on farm and pet animals in each childhood reduces the risk of the child developing asthma or severe allergies." What is a prediction of this hypothesis? Now, I just don't understand how exactly a prediction is supposed to be/look. I have searched everywhere online to find something to help with this, nada. So, if anyone has hints or anything at all to help that'd be fantastic!

Hi, For my architecture work I need to identify the 4-bit register with tri-state outputs 74LS173 and the 4-bit ALU 74LS181.I need to research their operation and design and simulate a test layout for each, using logic switches to input data and logic displays to show outputs, and 4-bit data items and pathways. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to get started? Thanks.

You must construct the following layout : and simulate it, additionally using switches and lights for data input and display. The simulation must carry out the operation X + Y -> X. Produce a table of control switch settings which carries out the operation described. I'm guessing that X, Y, A should be gates, and O should be the output? Do you think that's correct? Also for the ALU, how does that work? I've never used ALUs in CircuitMaker before so I'm not quite sure how they work.

  16. Suppose Bob produced document m and h(m) using a hash function h which is known publicly. (a) Bob sends {m, h(m)} to Alice over the Internet. Can Alice verify that m has not been tampered with (say during its transit over the Internet)? Explain. My answer: I assume Alice can verify that m has not been tampered with, since h(m) should still compute correctly regardless of whether a replay attack has occurred or not. SO yes Alice can check message tampering. Can anyone let me know if this is correct?

Hey guys, I am a bit new to this forum and this is my first post (i used to just read stuff that came up here). I hope its not inappropriate to ask something right away, because i will do now ask for any advice. I'm studying applied mathematics, and at the moment im working on differential equations. Now i found something i could find an answer to in my book, or somewhere else on the internet. In my textbook (martin braun, differential equations and their applications), i stumbled on to the following question: Show that the solution of y(t) of the given initial-value problem exists on the specified interval: y' =y^2 + cos(t^2) , y(0)=0; on the interval 0 …

I ran through some previous years GATE papers and found one question like this: If 137+276=435, then how much is 731+672? (a.) 534 (b.) 1403 (c.) 1623 (d.) 1531 The answer is c.) 1623 and their explanation is that it is an octagonal addition. I surfed over the net and received unsatisfactory answers that used calculators. Please help here! Thanks in advance! Chinmay This is what I tried. I don't know where I have mistaken, but there is some gross of it, I believe. S.O.S Thanks in advance! Chinmay!

Hey everyone. I'm going to a Bible College right now, and we're taking a class called Science and the Bible. We're learning about evolution vs. creationism, and later on in the course, we have to write a report. Because we don't want to make things up and assume what people who believe in evolution think, we have to ask some questions. I will be handing in your answers completely unaltered. It would be awesome if you could answer them as best you could. Do you believe in God? If so, briefly explain your view. How do you think the universe began? How do you think life originated? Explain how you believe life forms evolved? How old do you think the earth is and…

I hate for this to be my first post here, as this is the kind of community I'd like to contribute to. Bad timing I guess. Basically, I am dealing with a "simple" Taylor expansion problem. I think the goal is to expand f(m) and f(∆m), and divide them part by part, but I do not know how to make that expansion. Rather than type out the problem and deal with formatting, I just took a screenshot of the problem. Can someone confirm that this is what I need to do, and maybe give me a hint as to how to expand this? It seems like, since m is in the denominator of a square root, taking n derivatives would accumulate a ton of junk. I guess it is only asking for an …
