If i'm using a magnetic stirrer bar can/should I use boiling chips as well for maximum safety and efficiency?

Shouldn't be necessary if you have it stirring.

Well, you could use chips if you're boiling and the solution is bubbling crazy after you have the stir bar in. The stir bar should
be enough though, since it is mixing the solution and distributing the heat evenly.
