Initiation ceremonies for girls in primitive societies?

I was watching this video

 

 

and they said the girls in this society are initiated into womanhood through a test of strength and character.

 

Well, having watched the video I didn't see her strength or character tested too much, but it made me wonder, are there primitive societies who DO subject girls to such tests?

 

So I'm not saying some initiation ceremony, but actual tests of some of these traits that would typically be viewed as male traits; strength, courage, endurance etc.?
