Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 Help!!

Featured Replies

I need help with my thesis. Is there anyone here who studied EHEC in their school who happens to isolate it using Sorbitol MacConkey Agar? I am currently doing this study..

Hi there,

What is your question exactly? - EHEC differs from other E. coli strains being unable to ferment sorbitol, thus it uses peptone in the agar to grow and make colonies. The use of peptone raises the pH in the medium,. So EHEC will grow on MacConkey sorbitol agar producing pale to yellow colonies.

Thanks Micro.Pete for your reply. I am currently studying EHEC O157:H7 from feces of native chicken. Do you have any journals or literature with isolation of the same organism from Chickens? Do you have any picture of EHEC O157:H7 colonies grown on SMAC which you can share? I can't seem to find any decent picture from the internet which may clarify what it supposed to look like. Thanks a Lot..
