Velocity of Sun relative to CMB?

Featured Replies

Wikipedia reports the velocity of the Sun as,

≈ 370 km/s (relative to the cosmic microwave background).

What does that mean?

It means that when we measure the temperature of the CMB, it is warmer in one direction and cooler in the other. This is due to blue and red shift in the CMB due to our movement with respect to the CMB "rest frame"(the frame where the temp is the same in all directions).
