Why is zone 1 of liver more prone to ischaemic injury?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is it because around central vein, there is only deoxygenated blood from the vein where as in the periphery there is hepatic artery. Also why does eclampsia cause zone 1 necrosis. Thanks :)

Blood flows from the portal vein inward towards the central vein. Thus the tissue around the central vein gets the last picking from the blood.

27 minutes discusses this. Great video too

hope this helps!
