Polynomials - unknown quotient

Featured Replies

here is this question in my text book that is as follows:

"when P(z) is divided by z2-3z+2 the remainder is 4z-7. Find the remainder when P(z) is divided by: a) z-1 b) z-2"

It does not tell me what P(z) is and the example does not explain this kind of question and they are all like this. I am very confused and would really like some help!!

P(z) represents a polynomial function with the variable z in it.

For the question use the relation

Dividend=Divisor*Quotient + remainder

In addition to Nikhil you can simply see that if p(z) is divisible by divider d(z) then all dividers of d(z)would be the divider of p(z). I think now you got at least the way,the rest is upto you.
