Formic acid in acetone

Featured Replies

Hello,

I try to make formate silver (AgCHOO) to enhance my silver halide holographic plates.

I have make silver carbonate and have formic acid.

My question is :

Can I mix formic acid with acetone without degradation of acid ? Seems formic acid + acetone form esters but is it degrade the potential of this acid ?

The reaction between formic acid and silver carbonate must be done at low temperature, preferably below 0*C this why I think of acetone to get low temperature.

Thanks in advance.

Ok...

Seems this question is terrible... No one try to reply or want to reply...

I've made some tests and seems there is no formation of ester in a mix of an aqueous solution of carboxylic acid in methanol.

See you.

Making an ester from an acid and an alcohol (such as methanol) might be fast or slow under your conditions. However, acetone is not an alcohol; therefore, I don't see how it could form an ester with formic acid. Perhaps I am missing something.
