Bashing the big bang theory!

Featured Replies

cperkinson - What you've attempted to describe above is quite similar to something called the multiverse. Of course you have a misunderstanding about the Big Bang regarding the "little atom blowing up." The term "Big Bang theory" is an unfortunate term since it makes it sound like the theory addresses an event when the universe started to expand. It also makes it sound like something exploded. No such event is contained in the Big Bang theory as it now stands. Peebles explains this in his cosmology text as follows

If there were an instant, at a "big bang," when our universe started expanding, it is not in the cosmology as now accepted, because no one has thought of a way to adduce objective physical evidence that such an event really happened.

However the basic idea you have been trying to get at has been around for a very long time. You can read about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiverse

The resistance you've received in this thread so far is a result of the fact that you have not provided any reason to believe that such universes actually exist. Having a theory is useless unless you can provide a reason why it should be considered. Mere belief will get you nowhere in science.

Cperkinson,

Your life may not be predetermined. Quantum Theory gives (some of) us a way out of that. I do not believe free will to be an illusion. I think it's real. No need to contemplate suicide - contemplate quantum consciousness instead (although be warned, you'll probably be deemed a crank - but at least you'll be a happy crank!):)
