A letter from Ernest Glitch to Michael Faraday dated 1856 would appear to indicate the discovery of C60 in the combustion products of acetylene

A C₆₀ fullerene has 20 hexagons; but also 12 pentagons, and the observation doesn't mention these; but the biggest problem I see is it's diameter; we simply couldn't see things 7 angstroms in diameter 1856. If we could, and above 260 kelvin, the spin would make it appear spherical.

Glitch is seeing crystallised C60, not the actual molecules.

So because it's mostly carbon and shaped like a hexagon, it's fullerene?
