A proposal to travel at the speed of light: Travel as Light.

 

 

By having a machine scan a human and send his information via a computer encoded ensamble of photons, a human can send not only what he looks like, but his genetic makeup, every cell in his body, and every last bit of what he is in a strand of photons that are ordered in such a way that a computer can recieve them far away. The computer would decode this strand of light and with another machine far away, reassemble the human at the new location (the person that opted to be transported via beams of photons would be discarded of to preserve the theme of someone traveling and not just duplicating himself). The machine would have to be very precise and able to scan every last detail about a person.

 

 

The person would have therefore (seemed to have) traveled at the speed of light, but actually his information was transported at the speed of light. This could possibly be the fastest mode of transportation that we have in the future.

teleportation, yes. i came up with a similar theoretical design for this. but, really, unless you destroy the original copy, its cloning. but destroying the original copy is bad.

 

its not transporting, its copy and pasting. still a good idea though. probably what theyll use to clone in the future, or something similiar. {if they do}

I hate to break it to you guys, but this is not exactly a new idea. Besides, a major flaw is that the Uncertainty Principle would not allow you to gather accurate enough information to make a exact copy at the end. You would be, in effect, killing someone and replacing them with an imperfect copy.

The only true transportation of a person would have to be litereally transforming the matter of that person into light, concentrating and collecting all of it (perhaps by restricting where it could escape to) and sending it all as a stream to the destination.

 

You would have to do this conversion without damaging the atoms structure, keeping the electric pathways in the brain, and either recording current exact positions of all electrons in the body or re-starting the person with resusitation (revive them, they would have to die for the trip.)

I think Dr Heisenberg has a thing or two to say about recording electron positions.:)

i think the real problem is recreating the person. And bring him back to life. They already have something similar for simple objects, a 3D scanner and a 3D printer. This is not only a teleporter but a clone machine!

 

And it does not even have to be light, even simpler just an a signal over an internet connection.

3D printers carve shapes out of a single matter, so they're not really cloning, they're just .. carving.

 

The idea, however, of a transporter sending info up through electromagnetic waves and then "reassembling it", is used in Star Trek already.

 

The *BIGGEST* problem (and hardly the only one) is the amount of information - both translating the molecular structure into such a huuuge stream of information and then receiving it and analyzing it and then using it to rebuild the information.
