Lab HW

Featured Replies

I had a lab in Chemistry class today and I'm supposed to answer a few questions. The lab was creating NaHCO3. The question I'm stuck on is... "To make sure that the white powder was all sodium chloride and not mixed with sodium hydrogen carbonate, would you need to add a little less or a little more hydrochloric acid to the reaction? Explain your dedision."

Any quick help on this would be much appreciated.

If you have a pile of NaHCO3 and add just enough HCl to theoretically react with all of it, but leave out a little bit, will you still have NaHCO3 left over in the reaction mix?

What happens if you add more HCl? Im guessing this was a way to analyze your product. Hint: If you boil HCl, does it leave behind any solid?
