What is "Trilineage" in Trilineage Pancytopenia?

Featured Replies

I know what pancytopenia is, but i am wondering if anyone can give me an insight as to why it is termed "Trilineage". This should be an easy question for those doctors out there

I'm not a doctor, so I don't know for sure, but it seems that "trilineage" just confirms that 3 cell lineages are affected. There's no "bilineage" pancytopenia, but there's bilineage cytopenia. Trilineage cytopenia is pancytopenia, so maybe at sometime "trilineage" was added to pancytopenia for confirmation and it's stuck, but it is really redundant.

When you say pancytopenia affects three lineages, do you mean white, red, and platelets?
