Free graphing calculator (open source?) all the bells and whistles, capable of most anything mathematical.

 

Online mathematics course, free. Brings you from intermediate to advanced, in most math forms.

scilab is good. though it isn't really a calculator perse, more of a programming environment.

Tell me...I find with many things I've undertaken to learn, once you get so far into it, things start to become second-nature, and climbing levels in skill is not so hard. I've found this true in 3d and vector art.

 

Could the same be said of mathematics, or is it always a pain?

in mathematics there is always somethng so far ahead of you it is incomprehensible. the stuf you find difficult now will become extremely simple for you with time(oh for the simplicities of multivariable calculus) but there always be something that you'll never understand.

maths is plenty boring as it is. i hated that class. i only use it as a means to an end. it had me wondering why the hell i picked an engineering course and not some arty farty course where i wouldn't even have to do addition.
