Super Charged engine idea

Featured Replies

I`m no Car expert but do understand the basic principles of the internal combustion engine, turbos and NO gas mixes :)

this is ONLY an idea, and I`ll leave it to more experienced in this area to decide it`s viability.

I`m sure we`ve all heard of NO (Nitrous Oxide) or "Nitrous" as it`s often called. and it`s effect on an engine!

NO gas is quite expensive and sold in bottle form, what if there were a way to generate NO gas directly using heat from the turbo or exhaust manifold ? and have the advantage of it being in a solid form?

it would require little work as far as I can see, you`de need a heat proof sealable metal container (screw top) that has a simple pipe arangement off it that feeds into your Carbs.

you fill the can with Ammonium Nitrate, as that gets hot, it gives off NO gas that in turn is fed into the carbs for that extra boost :)

when the can is used up, take it out, wash it and dry it, and refill it for next time :)

comments welcome ;)

How much NO gas would that really produce tho? Each quarter-mile run usually takes about .4kg of nitrous to produce 75-hp gains... i.e. alot of pressure is neccessary to introduce the NO quickly.

depending on temp, heat dispersal and amount of NH4NO3 used, it`s down to calcs really (not my strong point).

I dunno about 75 brake horse power, but a slow intake would produce some results even if only 10 bhp :)
