Thermite Question

Featured Replies

Will the flame produced by a Potassium chlorate/sugar reaction reach a high enough temperature to initiate a thermite reaction?

it depends what you`re using to make up your thermit and its Mesh size.

Iron(II,III) oxide powder (not sure of mesh) and indian blackhead aluminum powder 2-4 micron.

Hmmm... it Should get hot enough, BUT, there`s a lot of Solid product with chlorate sugar mix and also water (not ideal for initiating a thermit reaction).

can`t you use a sparkler instead?

  • Author

Maybe, ill see if I can buy some. But I thought it would be cool to have one flaming reaction set off another one

Same here with the sparklers, doesn't mean you can't use them. (:
