Quantum tunneling and Flash...

Featured Replies

hihi... new around...

anyway, i juz finish reading the book "the physics of superheroes" and it is mentioned inside that the faster Flash runs, the higher his probability of running through the wall (hence, conducting Quantum Tunneling). However, i will like to ask how this is being calculated from the Schrodinger Equation. How is it shown in the equation that the faster one moves, the higher the probabilty of ending up on the other side of the barrier?

Thank you very much for reading... :)

It is to do with energies. If you solve the TISE (time independent schrodinger equation) inside the barrier for a finite potential barrier you will get an exponentially decaying wave function. The higher the initial energy the further into the barrier it takes to decay so if the barrier is thin enough the function reaches the other side at a higher point. I've not explained this wonderfully well...

I can't find any decent pictures on this atm.
