Wifi scratching.

Featured Replies

I just wified some mp3 and ogg files to my laptop and the mp3's seem to have picked up a sound that wasn't there before it kind of sounds like when you scratch at an earphone that your wearing. since this gets louder if youturn up the volume i can only assume this is an artifact that has been picked up at some point because it was NOT there before.

could this have been caused by interferance? or something else?

That is strange, although I've had a similar experience... I suppose it is most likely to be some sort of corruption within the file. Some kind of intereference within the wire would seem a good explanation.

Unless of course that scratching noise was always there you just never heard it, say if the EQ was setup differently. But then you would probably here scratching on other tracks, so maybe not!

Try transferring one again and see what happens.

Try opening the files in an audio editor that shows the sound waves on the screen, then you will be able examine both files. I dont know if it is possible for corruption over wifi because usually all bits and bytes are checked before written. It could have been an error in the software you used to transfer the files.

i've checked. i took some of the affected files and put them back onto my PC with a USB pen and they're definitely different. you can see the different bits in audacity.
