Yes, McAfee which I pay a yearly fee for, does just that. It scans your computer before windows starts and then onward from that. I've had it for two years now and never got a virus....

If you can't boot to 'the windows bar screen' (im assuming this means that you can't load windows atall, exept possibly in safe mode) then merely removing the virus might not fix your problem.

 

It might be damage to some inportant file/setting caused by the virus, that'll have to be fixed.

I was using my "infected" computer to start the thread.

I pressed F8, and there was a lot of choices for me to select.

As usual, I chose the safe mode, but it still ran in the same way.

Then, I tried every CD Dell provided to see if it helps.

Later, it was still useless and I clicked F8 and selected the OPTION

The Same as the last correct operation.

And it allows me to enter the window.

I am operating a complete full virus scan now.

Avast will let you do, what it calls, a boot-time scan.
