Bones of an elephant-like animal, the mastodon, have been found in Michigan.

The remnants were confirmed to be that of a mastodon by scientists at the Cambrook Institute of Science. Nearly 250 others have been found in Michigan. Mastodons roamed the region until they became extinct between 10,000 and 12,000 years ago.
