Was wondering what kind of high end paying careers for microbiology there are that aren't research in a uni. something to aim for..

Making anthrax for al Qaida? But seriously, folks, no. No there isn't.

Pathologist - specialising in microbiology

Working for the government....but that isn't high paying (and it's degrading). Maybe working as a consultant for a biotech firm?

In microbiology? Not unless you're with a biotech. That goes for anything in biology. But most scientists love the work and don't care about the size of their paychecks.
