Flame

Featured Replies

I have heard an interesting question somewhere, but i haven't been able to find a suitable answer.

Could anyone tell me what a flame is?

Light emitted by combustion of a chemical.

yes, but could u go deeper

In a combustion reaction electrons move to a higher energy state, emitting photons based on what orbital they're in, which accounts for the color of a flame.

do a Google search for "first ionisation energy" too, that`ll help a little :)

another more simple way, think of it as Gasses so hot that they glow.

yup thanks, that answers everything

fas, If you don`t mind me asking, what prompted you ask that, it`s a good question :)

I`m fascinated by flame colors (I do Pyrotechnics) if you want to go deeper into it, feel free to ask :)

Its a basic zone of burning gases including fine suspended matter (DISS) associated with rapid combustion leads to a hot, glowing mass of burning gas or vapor.
