Burning Video DVDs, how?

How can I burn some of my .mpg's to a DVD? I can only do it as a data DVD through nero, I want to be able to play them on a DVD player connected to a TV. Do I need to download some special software? or can it be done through windows?

 

I'm pretty new to burning so appreciate the help.
