does anyone have any idea of how i could make some of these alcohols :

 

- butanol

- propanol

- isoamyl alcohol (for esters)

just use the alkyl halides for esterification

 

for your n-alcohols, take the alkene and do anti-markownikoff addition via hydroboration and oxidation.

Butanol can be made by fermentation. If i rem it right just like ethanol but with different bacteria. I plan to experiment with this someday if i have more time.

Bud, it`s usualy wise (and courteous) to keep the answer at the level of the original posts question, you may know what you`re on about and be perfectly correct, but it doesn`t help the questioner much :(

i did, and , i didnt find anything that helped. out of the 10 or so pages that showed up none of them showed me how to make alcohols from alkenes. and is it even possible to make "isoamyl" alcohol that way?

Also, what does n-alcohol mean?
