LCDs replaced by Carbon?

Featured Replies

Like the title said, in January 2005 there was much talk of using Carbon nanotubes to replace LCD screens. It'd provide a better quality as well as less power consumption.

See the Jan05 full article here:

Since then the only article I can find on carbon TVs would be here:

http://www.newscientist.com/channel/mech-tech/mg18625006.800

Which mentions the prototype 10cm flat screen nanotube screen. It again mentions low power consumption and says it'd cost little to produce.

What is the price difference and time/energy payoff?

How long until the price comes down to about $150 USD for a 15 inch?

It's still in the prototype stage so no one knows, besides I've read the articles, I know what you know!

Nanotubes are expected to be cheaper (significantly) compared to LCDs... and similarly the power consumption is meant to be significantly less.

I dunno, it probably isn't worst than currently, but TV lifetime isn't something one really publicises, even if it is good.

The first link I gave in post #1 said:

"Televisions based on the new screens will nudge onto shelves in late 2006"

its cool that nanotech is becoming part of daily life. but im happy with my OLD electron gun TV. lol

it gets good picture.

One would assume that the organic part of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) referrs to carbon, however is this OLED the same as the carbon nanotube TVs that I originally mentioned???
