Hi! For class, we are coming up with an idea and we have some questions: 

1. Are there any bacteria stains that are safe for consumption?
2. Is there any difference in DNA between E. Coli and Salmonella? IF so, is there a stain that can detect these 2 bacterias and come out with a different colour for each bacteria detected?
3. Is bacteria stain reusable? For example, if i were to wash it, would i be able to use it again? 

1, yes, the commercial ones with the right safety measures. (gloves, goggles, etc.)

2, there are DNA differences between them,

The detection is a complex process: gram staining, fimbria agglutinating tests, usage of overspent hyperimmune serum,  culturing on blood agar just to name a few for e.coli. There is no staining which could make a direct difference between the 2 (both gram -, rod-shaped, and most of them has fimbriae)

3, Some of the stainings, yes, but just in the right concentration, If you have washed it down you will not be able to use the washed down stain. 

With the usage of electron microscopes, you can make a direct differentiation between them.

Thank you for your answer! Really lending a huge helping hand for my group and I. Can I check that the bacteria stains can be eaten? And also, if I were to use bacteria stain and combine it with like, a plastic coat to coat a product, will the stain on that coating be reusable?
