Null Hypothesis

Featured Replies

Select all statements that apply to the Null Hypothesis:

a) has associated rejection regions that define limits associated with rejecting the Null at the expense of making a probabilistic error.

b) It must be demonstrated not to be true by providing a significantly different sample

c) It can be represented by confidence interval around a mean

d) It represents the existing, normal situation and is assumed to be true.

e) The Null hypothesis is tested via a sample and if the sample is good, then the null is accepted.

I know that D is one. But I am having trouble figuring out if the other ones apply to the Null Hypothesis or not. His wording is just so vague.

I agree, but that's the problem with multiple choice questions. All could be argued to be true, except maybe e). which is too vague to give an answer: what is a 'good' sample and why would it lead to the null being accepted? Is this one of those statistics without the maths BS courses?

Do you have a chance of justifying your answers or is it simply choose some letters get some marks?
