For a story in Reader's Digest, I am putting together a list of the most mind-boggling discoveries/inventions/findings so far in 2017, and I need your ideas!

 

The list could include findings from every branch of science-- astronomy, behavioral psychology, medicine, genetics, biology, etc. Our main criteria is that the findings are interesting, surprising or useful, and that they were published in 2017.
