  1. Here we're having a really hot dry summer, and today was a cooler overcast/cloudy day. Now, at 12:51 at night, we're having this odd thunderstorm where there are more flashes of light then noticeable thunder. Maybe I'm missing it, but I wanted to ask if this was typical.
  2. Yes, and this is an other topic forum, which by my understanding, allows me to post other topics here.
  3. I think something I may start posting all of my papers and essays here when I'm done with them. I'm in 8th grade, so if they don't go too much below the surface, don't be surprised, here's a paper on the Black Panther party I wrote for class. The Black Panther Party, By ******** In 1966 California, a movement was started by recent jailbird, Huey P. Newton, and 5 other members created a movement based of a principal of Marxism and Black Pride, titled the Black Power Movement for Self-Defense. The six founding fathers of the movement were Elbert Howard, Huey P. Newton, Sherman Forte, Bobby Seale, Reggie Forte, and Little Bobby Hutton. The organization was based on the militant protection and organized establishment of a Marxist-Socialist revolution in the US. Even selling Mao Zedong’s “Mao’s Red Book” in order to procure Shotguns (California law stated that you could have a shotgun out in public as long it was clearly visible.) From there they managed to write out their political and social commands in their “10 Point Plan”, which stated that they, in short, wanted community control over the modern industry, the ending of what they saw as victimization by the government, and the ending of what they felt was victimization by the capitalist system. The Black Panther Party managed to become well known and recognized in the community, and the FBI, becoming what J. Edgar Hoover said was “The greatest threat to national security”, and later ranking high on an FBI watchlist. They also started a program called the “Free Breakfast for School Children”, which, within years time of it starting, helped fill the stomachs of 10,000 strong. However, things began to degenerate within the party, due to ideological disagreements and Huey P.’s drug addiction, he is later killed in Oakland, CA in a drug dispute. Original founding father Bobby Seale resigned from internal leadership, and the rest falls apart. Many regard the Black Panther Party as a violent terrorist organization, and many others regard it as a confederacy of the disenfranchised minority of America. Regardless of your opinion on their tactics, they DID help pave the way for organizations like The Peace and Freedom, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and movements in the like of Cesar Chavez and his labor movement. One other thing is certain, the Black Panther Party will be remembered as crusaders in the civil rights and protest movement.

  5. I've always had an idea at the back of my mind, for harvesting an untapped resource; Kinetic energy. Lately, I have had ideas on how to do it. Not ACTUAL ideas, since I'm in middle school, but more like an idea of the location of this resource, the Freeway. So, I searched up on devices that could harvest Kinetic energy, and I found this; http://www.perpetuum.com/tech.asp If possible, do you think this could be placed under roads and freeways? Please post opinions below.
  6. Well, not every drill is contained to the size of your average screw, things can get small. That being said, Ed is probably right, if you want a fine hole, then lasers make sense. But my question would be would it remain fine, considering that (we're using iron for this instance) the melting point of Iron is 1,538°C, how hot does a laser get? If it gets above the melting point, would the hole be as precise?
  7. Thank you for all your help, I managed to get something. @Ed, I found that in my initial search, and I'm not yet capable of understanding this level of science. I'm in Algebra one, not even at Quadratic equations, we stopped at the beginning of Geometry. Sorry if your effort was all for none, the paper was rather short, as science assignments by me usually are, but you can judge as you will.: [Name Edited out] 5/19/13 Science Electromagnetism in relation to Circuits/Applications for Electromagnetism in circuits Electromagnetism is two different things. I: The force that is between magnetically charged particles II: A field of magnetism created by moving electrical charges. Electromagnets are used in circuits as such: There is a power source, a copper wire, and a metal. The wire is wrapped around the metal, and connected to the power source. The charge magnetizes the metal creating a magnetic field around the metal. The special thing about Electromagnets are that by interrupting the circuit, you can, in layman's terms, shut off the magnetism. Things with switches (Lights, the obvious example) would be exemplary. A shorter explanation of a practical usage of an Electromagnet would one of that in a junkyard. Since natural magnets cannot bear the weight of the piles of junk metal in a Junkyard, E-magnets are Ideal because the Electricity applied determines how strong the Electromagnets are. The user of the magnet can control the magnet (on or off) and move it around. It is practical because it helps sort out the metal from the rest of the garbage, which helps reduce metal waste. [The End]
  8. Dear SFN, I need to write a short paper on the workings and usages of electromagnetic circuits in order to pass 8th Grade science, any sites outlining these concepts in light/medium detail would be appreciated. Sincerely, ProfessorDoxus (TEST SIGNATURE) ~"Communism is like, SO last decade, bro." - George Orwell I may just write my paper on electromagnets in relation to circuits (i.e. usage in Parallel/Series and how they differ.)
  9. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10211315 should provide some insight, I can't understand the language, but I'm sure you can.
  10. If Earth were hollowed out only to it's outer layer of crust, what would happen? Would the Gravity decrease? Would the Gravity, if it remained, would it implode into itself? or just break apart into space? I'm in middle school, so a simple answer would be helpful. In the words of Friedrich Nietzsche, "The"
