  1. Why can't the universe be both finite and infinite? If I were to look at a material in front of me - In this case, a stand-alone computer speaker - I could apply both to it. Obviously, I can see the speaker sitting within the three spatial dimensions, and I can use my vision to note that the speaker exists in what appears to be a finite space. I can move the finite speaker, and I can dismantle the finite speaker into other finite parts. However, I would believe that the speaker would just as accurately exist as an infinite speaker within a finite space, because I can continue breaking down (although not with the human eye, of course, or even the most powerful microscope) the speaker into infinitely smaller pieces, because (redundant, I know) every finite thing can be segmented into smaller, finite things. Is there not a relationship between the two? If I were to say finite exists between two extremes of infinity, then I could assert it by saying that finite whole numbers may be used to count infinitely upwards; simultaneously, I can break down what is inbetween the very same whole numbers into infinitely smaller number... Of course, in the end, no matter how infinitely high one may count, it can always be measured as a finite integer; and now matter how infinitely small one may break down that which exists between the spaces, it can always be expressed, as well, as finite. I know this is all speculation without any real display of mathematics put into practice, so it's a very amateur way for me to bring this about, but I wholeheartedly do assume that the Universe is infinite, yes; but it is just as truthfully finite in every regard.
  2. There is a vast difference between "nowhere" and "singularity." I personally can not grasp my mind around nothingness, because it is nothing like singularity: Singularity is everything in an infinitely small space, which is much more fathomable than declaring total and complete Universal absence prior to its "formation." Why must "somewhere" come from "nowhere"? The properties of Physics cannot be ignored... Also, since light exists in a relative freedom from time, would findings that something that exists at a higher velocity infer that the Universe is an unsolvable struggle between the time-forward and time-backward? This is what I speculate. I don't believe that there are boundaries to spacetime; if there were boundaries, the Universe would actually have to be expanding within another body, and that body in another body, and so on. This erroneous rationalization makes things so much more complicated than recognizing infinity - If numbers are infinite, and science is based upon matter, which is quantitative, then infinity should be regarded as just such a reality in science. Whether infinitely small or large, the fabrics of the Universe (or universes: ooh-la-la!) are ultimately existent.
  3. Hi, everyone. I'm new here, and a high school student, so try to please salve the insatiable voracity for ripping apart threads with scrutiny for the heresy "Intelligent Design" articles one may stumble upon; I'm admittedly a tyro. I want to broach Metaphysics, because the field is one that I hold as an experiential sentiment. I "claim" (trying to keep the crude skepticism at bay) to shoulder both voluntary and involuntary relationships with that of clairsentience, claircognizance, past life regression, aural capacities, healing capacities, blah blah blah blah blah blah... Essentially, I was contemplating the absolute existence of dimensions: Are the current theoretical and vague higher dimensions (that which could be considered anything beyond the indubitable spacetime) gateways to the laws and properties of that which is, or has been, predestined in science as "fairytale?" I do understand that this harsh assertion is not fostered by everyone, but there is no current evidentiary support or "groundbreaking" law that I can comfortably rest my head upon, in assurance that my feelings are supported with knowledge. To speak in terms of physics, if one is on Physical Plane A and wants to transcend (or travel like Bart Simpson through a wormhole, if Brian Greene is your kind of man) to Physical Plane B, would not a Metaphysical Plane exist betwixt? That's not really the image I wanted to depict, but... If dimensions are universal, is it possible that they do exist more strongly in certain planes than others; or, perhaps, is our evolutionary process starting off at one end of dimensional spectrum (the most feasible and reachable - that of spacetime) and begrudgingly encroaching the lesser known? As we feebly attempt to ravel our minds around the String Theory and M-Theory and elements of Quantum Physics, could we be inadvertently decoding the fabrics of the Metaphysical Universe? I wish to believe blindly (although not for long, I yearn) that this is the case, and that even that which is not applicable with our current sensory detail consists of the same properties that govern our known Universe. I see telepathy and mediumship and such being constructed of particles and laws and guidelines. I think that work with Quantum Physics will lead us to the nexus of dimensional comprehension. Are there any thoughts on this, or experiences; or rather, people who could lead me in a beneficial direction?
