  1. A company is supposed to act rationaly. So before deciding to report / not report a crime, the people in charge must study where is the interest of the firm. It is why I suggested that you search for reasons why a firm should report. If you cannot find any valuable one, you have the answer to the initial question.
  2. Perhaps may you investigate the other side of the question : "What profit may be hoped by a major industry in reporting a crime ?" "In what cases is a crime reported ?" Find cases in which the crime is reported. For instance when a repayment of a loss is requested from an insurance company. Find samples, in the media, of legal actions against employees, competitors, hackers : they are a bunch of them. "Who is the responsible for the crime ? " : the industry itself (as a moral person), its executives, its workers, competitors, external individuals? The reaction of the company may vary drastically according to the answer to this question. Generally, companies love to make a good trial to a competitor or to external individuals when they are a true nuisance. They are usually more reluctant to sue their own executives.
  3. My conviction (but it may be false) is that dominent west winds (in temperate regions) are mainly due to the rotation of the earth. If true, west winds are the result of the difference of rotation speed between the solid earth and the atmosphere.
  4. Earth rotation is one of the causes of the winds. So aeolian energy, like tide energy, makes use of earth rotation.
  5. Alpha2Cen, could you please be kind enough and explicit the meaning of variables ?
  6. Yes. I think it can be established this way : Let suppose that a surface S moves of a distance dl under the action of a pressure P. The variation of energy is [math] dW = F dl = P S dl[/math] If dV is the variation of volume for a surface S and a displacement dl, [math] dV = S dl[/math] it comes [math] dW= P dV[/math] The volumetric flow of fluid is defined as [math]Q = dV / dt[/math] Then, [math]dW = P Q dt[/math] So, Power = [math] dW / dt = P Q[/math] The power is the product of the pressure by the volumetric flow. Perhaps it can be stated this way, in more physic terms : If a pressure is applied to a surface S and that this surface don't move, it is because the material opposes a force, the reaction that compensates the action of the pressure. This reaction has an intensity equal to the one due to the pressure but in opposite direction. Perhaps some people make a confusion between the force due to the pressure and the reaction of the materials submitted to this pressure ? I hope it can help.
  7. According to Wikipedia, he definition of a force is the cause of a change of velocity or of a deformation of a flexible object. So, no force => no change of velocity ; it is just the definition of a force. IMO, Hydrostatic has been studied by Archimedes and Pascal. What is exactly your question ?
  8. Your question can be formalized as the study of the inequality 2n < 10k The log function being an increasing function, it is equivalent to study n log 2 < k log 10 => n < k log10 / log 2 log 10 / log 2 = 1 / log 2 = 3.32192809 ... So it is the same as the result you find experimentaly.
  9. Perhaps could you add some information about the difficulty to break DES and RSA according to the length of the key. Has RSA with a key of 2048 bits been cracked, yet ? RSA Security pretends it is safe up to 2030. You may do some research on this. Sorry if I wasn't clear. What I meaned is that in some countries, legal considerations may limit the use of encryption algorithms : in France, before 2004, DES and RSA were allowed, but the lenght of keys was legally limited to a max of 128 bits. I didn't check but heard that it is still limited to 2048 bits. Import and export of encryption software are regulated (IMO, in most countries). So, even is a secure encryption system exists in the USA, one may not be allowed to import it in his own country (assuming he is not a US citizen) and will have to cope with a less secure algorithm.
  10. Travelling by car or aircraft is "unsafe". But many people do it because they think it is "reasonably safe". Try to determine if using DES or RSA is "reasonably secure" or not, for civil applications (internet purchase, current bank operation, business communications...). Another hint : in my country (France) before 2004, usage of encryption was regulated for security reasons : only some encryption systems were allowed for private use. Import and export of encryption system are still regulated.
  11. Sorry to sound pessimistic, but I don't think an amateur can do this sort of development : it would be like building your own celular phone. efzauner is right : these equipments are cheap. If you cann't find one in your country, try to import it via Internet.
  12. If your project is to wear a suit that radiates only infrared light, this is easy : wear a black suit, like some muslin women do. Black absorbs all visible light ; the only radiation you will emit will be infrared due to the heat of your body. Unfortunatly, this will not make you invisible : the brain of an observer can analyze the absence of light as a black object (in daylight, of course) and identify this object by its contour. A clever little guy, this brain, isn't it ?
  13. Yes. An OS provides services to applications programs ; some of these services are dedicated to networking. Yes. So, networking is an action (or the result of this action). And an action is not the same as a software. Perhaps can we say that networking involves the existence and cooperation of components of each Operating Systems of the devices participating to the network. So networking is not an OS. But an OS must includes network services in order to make a computer able to connect to a network. The cooperation of these components belonging to distinct OS is made possible thru the existence of Standards such as TCP/IP, html ...
  14. Develop the product of the second form, group by similar term (a^2, ab, b^2 ...) then check that the coeficients of each similar term are equal in form (1) and (2).
  15. It would be a good start if you can define what, in your opinion, is networking and and what is an operationg system.
