  1. Grub can do everything Lilo can do. Grub is also easy to use and configure. Pick one of them it really dosen't matter.
  2. Yes that's the problem. You have to change your settings to reflect your language. If you are using a proxy server it will usually direct you to the Google page that the proxy is located in.
  3. I don't understand what you are saying. Linux is a totally diffrent operating system then Windows. You can't run executable files from Linux on Windows! The disk you need to boot up. So reboot the computer and follow the installer guide to install LInux.
  4. Are you on Windows? I assume you are. Download the ISO Recorder Power Toy http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm for Windows xp. Once you have installed it just right click on the iso image and hit copy to cd.
  5. Not the hard drive itself. Think about it like this. I tell two people to organize my files. Let's call these two people Person 1 and Person 2. Now I give them both the same amount of files. I tell them to organize them in two stacks. One stack for trash and one stack for mailing. Person A organizes all the files alright without problems and even makes sure that no files get dis-organized. Person B trys to organize all the files but in the end somehow gets three stacks and tons of files are out of place. Person A = say ext3 and Person B = Fat32. I am sure there is more detail to it then that but it gives you the general idea.
  6. http://mandrakeuser.org/docs/mdoc/ref/ext2fs.html#AEN3291 http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_zdext/is_200112/ai_ziff19913 If you look up journalized file systems you get a lot of results for Linux file systems. I am on Linux now and love it. It supports all my hardware, 99.9% of the software is free and provides me with all the programming tools I could ever need and want and allows me to pick what kind of window manager I have (kde, gnome, flux) etc.
  7. Linux can work on older computers fine. I assumed that this was an older computer due to the bad specs it has. How much onboard RAM does your video card have? I suggest you get some more RAM. At least get 256mb if you are going to use this machine often.
  8. Do you mean Red Hat 3 Enterprise? If so I think you shouldn't have problems with it in text only mode. If you want to use X Server (the GUI and stuff) I don't think your system fits the requirements. You should really upgrade! My computer runs at 2.20ghz and I have 1Gb of ram!
  9. Now all you have to worry about is the huge security holes found in Microsoft Windows!
  10. All Windows Operating Systems have the blue screen of death. Even Windows Longhorn!
  11. When you install Windows/Linux do it in this order. 1. Install Windows first! If you are using a newer version of Windows then it will ask you how much space you want to use for the Windows Operating System. If it does ask you set it to use half of your hard drive. 2. After installing Windows pop in the Linux cd-rom and install Linux. The installer will help you install a boot loader, adjust the sizes of other partitions and more! You shouldn't have to have Partition Magic at all on most distributions! It's quite simple really and next time I suggest you install the GRUB Boot Loader to your hard drive since it can boot both Windows & Linux.
  12. Nice tutorial and site! Also I saw the title of this tutorial, " TI-BASIC tutorial for all you nerds out there." Us Kansas Computer Wizards prefer to be called geeks, not nerds!
  13. Yes I know both PHP and Perl. I love using server side language! I have developed tons of sites in the two languages and you should see the demand for PHP/SQL Coders!
  14. I myself think that prison is the answer. But some things need to change with the current U.S. Prison System. For example, notice how immates are allowed to have -Television sets -Radio's -Food (they can even buy more food) and alot of other things. This is giving many the idea, "hey prison isn't that bad!" I think if we took away some of these luxuries we would be putting back the idea, "You don't want to go there."
  15. Science Forum uses the following languages. -PHP (server side scripting language.) -Javascript -HTML -SQL

You want to learn DOS. DOS stands for Disk Operating System. You issue commands to DOS. Once you learn it, you can create what is called a Batch File that can execute several commands at DOS without user interaction. In Command Prompt type in the following. C:\> Iexplore and hit return. Make sure not to type in the C:\>. That is just showing you what the prompt will look like. Notice now it launches Internet Explorer. This is only an example. If you want to learn DOS then check out http://www.computerhope.com/msdos.htm. Hope I helped you.

I happen to know all of these languages. Alright where shall I begin? C is an older language developed by the same developers who worked on UNIX. You can find out more about C here http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/who/dmr/chist.html C# is a new language developed by the (choke) Microsoft Corporation. It's part of their .Net Framework. It has similar syntax to C/C++. The language I liked but when the source was compiled it ran to slow. Slower then Java Applications that preformed the same task. C++ is C on steroids. Even though many people will say C++ is more powerful then C this just isn't true. C++ just add's support for things like OOP and so on. You can do OOP in C but it is a bit harder. You can find more about C++ at http://www.hitmill.com/programming/cpp/cppHistory.asp If you are wanting to learn one of these languages learn C first then C++.
  18. Java is not Javascript! Javascript allows your site to become more dynamic and do more things. For example if you want to display a message box to the user when they come to your site or do something specific you can where as you can't do that in HTML. You can do alot in Javascript and it is a wonderful language to learn if you're a web programmer. If you need any help with the language, if you do decide to learn it, let me know! I know Javascript. An example of Javascript in action can be found at http://www.spellcheck.net. Hit the caculator link. This is one of the many things you can do in Javascript. Java is a whole other story.
  19. I wonder why your screenshot is so dim looking. Odd... Must be your color configuration.
