  1. Well, begin by reading some of Einstein's work since I believe he was the first to propose black holes. Also, here are some books on black holes that I found on Amazon which got high ratings. 1) http://www.amazon.com/Black-Holes-Time-Warps-Commonwealth/dp/0393312763 2) http://www.amazon.com/Death-Black-Hole-Cosmic-Quandaries/dp/0393330168/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1337935307&sr=1-1
  2. So, this post should have started in this area of the forum. It's a new topic in science. I hope to generate discussion on the articles I read on the internet, and read about what you have to say in response. I don't know much about about the people who respond on this forum, but I assume you are all intelligent. If you would, could you tell me after your response if you are a student, graduate, or professional. Thank you. After reading some fairly recent articles in science, I have been inspired to learn more about the research being done to fight what seems like a whole range of diseases. The articles I read are from MIT news. I would provide you with link but they aren't posting correctly. So, I put the date and title of each article. 1) Getting to the roots of genetics (04.17.12) 2) New drug could cure nearly any viral infection (08.10.11) 3) A glow of recognition (12.14.11) What do you think of their methods? -Computational techniques to understand genetic diseases -Combining dsRNA-binding protein with another protein to cause apoptosis to stop cancer growth Do you think theses methods will yield successful results? In terms of understanding and remedying current diseases like cancer, hiv, schizophrenia, and other diseases? The first method mentioned is being used to "decode" the human genome. The second, well, fighting off most viruses by means of apoptosis. Insight about me. I am a recent graduate student. I majored in biology and minored in french. I'm 23 and interested in medicine and research. My dream is to work alongside scientists who are working on some of the topics mentioned above as their assistant.

    A Idiots Idea

If you browse the questions asked on MIT's Ask an Engineer, you will find similar questions and assertions. I would post a link but not sure if that is within guidelines.
  4. Traveling at the speed of light is impossible for us right now since we do not have the technology. HOWEVER, If we found a WORM HOLE, we could use that to travel to distant places across the universe?
  5. I think science and religion go hand in hand and are not contradictions to each other at all. For instance, a physicist may believe in God. He or she may study the universe to gain a better understanding of who or what God is. In my view, religion is like an inactive method of learning about God whereas science takes a more active role in discovering God. Some of the problems, for example, that physicists, 'scientists,' try to answer is "how did the universe come into being," which they explain this with the big bang theory. However, that is not necessarily saying that the big bang created the universe, because what put the big bang into motion? Could that be God? If this makes sense to anyone let me know. I tried to explain how I see it.
  6. I think 'genius' is a product of both nature and nurture. You have to be in a nurturing environment where resources to learn is at your disposal as well as be fit mentally to learn.

  8. If your interested in reading what I am referring to in my post, see these articles from MIT news. 1) http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2012/profile-kellis-0417.html 2) http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2011/antiviral-0810.html 3) http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2011/fluorescent-chemical-detectors-1214.html They are fairly recent articles so I wonder how much they have accomplished since they were published.
