  1. Making small quantities of NI3 wouldnt be considered illegal would it? When i think of illegal i think of making drugs and large bombs to hurt people with, but im not exactly sure what the laws are. Anyone have a good site that tells the specific laws in the US?
  2. The other day when i was at the store i found a bottle of floweasy drain cleaner. The bottle says it contains "virgin sulfuric acid and 12 buffers". What's the deal with the 12 buffers and how will they affect other reactions? Would this be an acceptable replacement for getting the acid out of old/new batteries? Does anyone know how much acid there is in a battery?
  3. Does anyone know how they make liquid nitrogen?

    Tesla Coil

5614 i use a powerstrip plugged into the wall and everything else comes off that. You dont want to have a switch near the coil because there is no delay . I just use the switch on the power strip. I also use a variac to increase the voltage slowly so that i dont have to start at full power. I would recomend this because you dont know what might go wrong.

    Tesla Coil

The tesla coil will increase your original voltage signifigantly. A neon sign transformer is only 15,000 volts maximum. Im guessing my last tesla coil was outputting anywhere from 750,000 to 1,000,000 volts with about 1000 watts input. This is why the sparks will be significantly larger. The voltage difference tells it all

Does ozone have a sweet smell or was that some other gas? It smelled like candy

    Tesla Coil

I recommend testing your Tesla coil outside because it can produce ozone and nitrogen oxides. These gases not only smell horrible but they can also corrode your lung tissue. You also want to make sure you discharge your capacitor every time you use it. When working with something this dangerous you need to learn all you can before you build one.
