  1. Not exactly new about the traps but i've had an extended absence so I thought I might as well reintroduce myself. The name is James but I guess Thales will do. For those who don't know who Thales was, investigate.

I've been absent for almost a year now but I am back in my adopted home of Melbourne. Just completed an insane few months of boarding in NZ followed by Canada. I am in my honours year of a physics major and eagerly awaiting my doctorate which I am doing on cosmology.

You'll find me mostly posting in the Physics section, although I like enjoy philosophy and am not know for shying away from an arguement, as long as it is warranted.

    Peace

  2. I've been away for a while so I'm not technically new but I have been absent for some time. Just wrapped up my degree last year and have finally settled down after an awesome, perpetual party, vacation.

The three month long hangover is starting to wane and i thought its time i turned my brain back on. Couldn't think of a more plesurable way to loosen up the ol' brain, prior to resuming number crunching and theorising for a living again.

Good to be back SFN :)

  3. I come from the dull land of Australia, where the technology is 10 years behind.

Thats a rather pessimistic assumption. While we are not world leaders in physics we have made substantial contributions to Astronomy and Medicine. Given our population I would say we're punching much above our weight.

  4. I recieved this one via e-mail the other day;

Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far

during the Summer Olympics that they would like to take back:

    1. Weightlifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw

her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

    2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak

from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

    3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my

    mother and father."

    4. Boxing Analyst: "Sure there have been injuries, and even some

deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious."

    5. Softball announcer: "If history repeats itself, I should think we

can expect the same thing again."

    6. Basketball analyst: "He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't

like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces."

    7. At the rowing medal ceremony: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the

IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."

    8. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've

got eleven Dicks on the field."

    9. Tennis commentator: "One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is

that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses

them... Oh my God, what have I just said?"

  5. I'm Thales. I enjoy asking questions from a different perspective, not always a correct one <sounds like a cop out, but I am a believer that too many people accept things blindly, my father taught me in order to truely understand something it is sometimes wise to argue the negative> . I am a fundamental believer in the power of the mind and that we can all improve ourselves with intellectually stimulating conversation, something that is more than lacking in todays society. That's why I am here.

I enjoy all fields of science, but particularly physics and philosophy.
